The Community Relations Specialist will be passionate about fostering positive relationships between our organization and the communities we serve. The role involves engaging with community members and implementing initiatives contributing to the community's well-being.

Your scope of responsibility

  • Create and execute effective public relations campaigns to promote key initiatives, events, and achievements.

  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to strengthen employer branding strategies and ensure alignment.

  • Monitor public opinion, industry trends, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities and risks, and adjust strategies accordingly.

  • Manage the organization's social media presence, ensuring a consistent brand voice and engaging content.

  • Lead internal communication efforts to ensure alignment, engagement, and understanding of organizational goals and initiatives among employees.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute internal campaigns, programs, and events that foster a positive and informed company culture.

  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of public affairs initiatives, using data-driven insights to refine strategies.

  • Community Engagement:

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to enhance community development efforts.

  • Act as a liaison between the organization and the community, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

  • Conduct regular assessments to understand the needs and concerns of the community.

  • Work closely with community members to identify opportunities for positive impact and development.

  • Event Planning and Coordination:

  • Organize and participate in community events, programs, and initiatives.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to plan and execute events that align with the organization's goals and community needs.

  • Communication and Outreach:

  • Communicate through various social media channels to inform the community about plant activities, response actions, and safety measures.

  • Manage internal/external communications (newsletter, social media, media relations, advertising)

  • Monitor social media platforms for community feedback, questions, and concerns.

  • Proactively engage with the community on social media, providing timely and accurate information about plant activities and addressing inquiries.

  • Partnership Development:

  • Collaborate with external partners to leverage resources and support community initiatives.

  • Construction Communication:

  • Coordinate with relevant departments to plan and communicate construction projects to the community.

  • Update the community on construction timelines, potential disruptions, and safety measures in place.

  • Emergency Response Coordination:

  • Work closely with the emergency response team to ensure coordinated communication during incidents and emergencies.

  • Collaborate with third parties to facilitate community awareness and response efforts.

What you bring to OCI

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Experience, and/or Training

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Public Relations, or Community Development)

  • Proven track record of 10+ years of experience in public affairs, public relations, or related roles.

  • Specific knowledge and connections within the Beaumont, Texas community.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic communication plans that enhance brand reputation and visibility.

  • Extensive experience working with media outlets and building relationships with journalists and influencers.

  • Deep understanding of digital media, social media platforms, and content strategy.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to achieve organizational goals.

  • Proven ability to analyze data, generate insights, and make data-driven decisions.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • High level of creativity and innovation in approaching communication challenges.

  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for communication, content creation, and analytics.

  • Proven experience in community relations, public relations, social media relations or a related field.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

  • Familiarity with community development principles and practices.
