OVERVIEW:

The Community Relations Internship at the Cambridge Department of Public Works offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community engagement and urban forestry initiatives. The intern will work closely with the Community Relations Division and the Urban Forestry Division to support various projects and activities aimed at enhancing communication with residents and promoting environmental stewardship.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

URBAN FORESTRY DIVISION:

  • Assist in the creation of Forest Friends newsletters, including content development, editing, and visual layout.

  • Collaborate with team members to generate engaging social media posts highlighting urban forestry programs, events, and initiatives.

  • Conduct research on urban forestry best practices and emerging trends to inform content creation.

  • Assist in organizing and promoting community events and workshops related to the Urban Forestry Division and their initiatives.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS DIVISION:

  • Develop and curate content for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) to increase engagement and awareness of DPW news, programs, and services.

  • Coordinate with the Cambridge Public Information Office's graphic designers to fulfill requests for marketing visuals, ensuring brand consistency and quality standards are met.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of community meetings and events, including logistics coordination, outreach efforts, and on-site support.

  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and implement innovative strategies to enhance community outreach and participation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.

  • Creative thinking and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Interest in community engagement, environmental sustainability, and urban forestry.
