Community Relations Coordinator (Urban Health Initiative)

The Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Department seeks a full-time Community Relations Coordinator to develop and manage community health programming in partnership with neighborhoods on the Southside and broader communities.

Job Summary:

The Community Relations Coordinator role reports to the Manager of Community Relations within the Office of Community Affairs to:

  • Advance health programming related to community outreach into new neighborhoods on the Southside in support of the growing footprint of the Urban Health Initiative

  • Serve as lead staff and support for a variety of offsite events that engage internal staff in external volunteer activities.

  • Coordinate health programs, health education activities, meetings, and workshops in community settings.

  • Create reports and document important information necessary for monitoring program/event success.

  • Develop community communications projects including presentations, social media content and newsletters.

  • Serve as coordinator for Community Fitness Program

  • Administrative support and other responsibilities as assigned.

The position requires traveling locally.

Must have own car and insurance

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and manage community-based programming in the neighborhood and broader community.

  • Initiate, develop and manage relationships with local institutions, associations and individuals to find ways to leverage our assets to support meaningful work in the community. Emphasis on health. (Churches, political offices, neighborhood groups, block clubs, etc.)*

  • Enter data, manage data and create written reports/presentations documenting community relations activity.

  • Coordinate off-site Community Fitness Program activities.

  • Support the work of Manager of Community Relations in implementing sponsorship activities, including large-scale event set-up and management of inventory facility.

  • Manage reporting for UHI programming/UCM volunteerism and communicate findings.

  • Act as the liaison between Community Relations/Volunteerism and all units/divisions on health programming opportunities and volunteer opportunities outside the Hospital.

  • Attend local and statewide meetings focusing on community-based programming, volunteerism and community building.

  • Assist Manager of Community Relations on special projects related to outreach and volunteerism at UCM.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in health programming, special event creation and/or program management

  • Minimum 3 years experience with community-based organizations

  • A bachelor's degree or requisite experience

  • MS Office experience required, Canva design and strong presentation abilities preferred

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • 1 year Volunteer management experience preferred

  • Demonstrate excellent writing abilities, public speaking skills, social media savvy

  • Experience in presenting information to large groups in a formal or informal setting

  • Experience and genuine interest in community building/organizing

  • An exceptional relationship builder

  • A person who can work independently and collaboratively with equal ease

  • Core competencies are flexibility, desire to serve and passion for the communities of the South Side.

  • Ability to thrive in a diverse environment

  • An understanding of the dynamics of neighborhoods/communities in Chicago

  • Ability to demo
