The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate community relations efforts across departments and support the city in its efforts to be an inclusive and welcoming community. This position is responsible for carrying out communications-related functions with the goal of providing timely information that will help residents better understand city government, become aware of what the city has to offer, and feel they are a part of the Woodbury community. This position will work under the direction of the Community Relations Manager.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Engagement
Lead or assist city personnel in the planning, publicity, and execution of community events.
Assist with the implementation of community engagement and communications efforts in community engagement plans as laid out in the Community Engagement Resource Guide.
Serve as the Community Relations Liaison to their assigned department or division to support communications and community relations efforts.
Follow inclusive, participatory processes to enhance engagement efforts and support major city projects or initiatives and make recommendations to enhance these efforts citywide.
Engage with members of the public and community leaders to learn about their needs and involve them in project planning.
Facilitate group discussions, when needed, by using the Technology of Participation methods.
Communications
Assist with the writing, photography, and distribution of the city's newsletter.
Review and proofread presentations, meeting notices, letters to residents and other materials for public distribution.
Serve as internal graphic design resource to prepare presentations, handouts, brochures, signage, flyers, and other marketing materials for public distribution.
Serve as backup to manage the City of Woodbury website and provide oversight to the content editors.
Serve as backup to manage the city's intranet site utilizing it to further engage and educate city staff on information and resources available through the intranet.
Assist in any crisis communication situation.
Assist as needed with city-related press releases.
Assist with media relations, as needed.
Ensure the city's brand standards are upheld across departments.
Assist with the coordination of government access programming and other video content with South Washington County Telecommunications Commission (SWCTC) staff.
Assist in producing and hosting videos in collaboration with SWCTC.
Assist in marketing/promoting city programs and facilities.
General
Foster an inclusive work culture and advance the city's diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Maintain and foster an environment, which facilitates the Exceeding Expectations (professional, responsive, leaders) philosophy of the city.
Actively pursue education to increase knowledge of best practices in community outreach, engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Work with the Community Relations Manager to implement the division's strategic plan(s).
Conduct other duties and projects as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in the field of journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, political science, sociology, English or a related discipline and 5 years related work experience.
OR
A minimum of an associate degree in one of the disciplines listed above and 7-10 years of experience in a communications or community engagement related position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Computer experience with Microsoft and Adobe Suite products.
Experience writing articles and/or website content for a professional organization.
Experience developing graphic design documents and presentations.
Working knowledge of website content management systems.
Experience working for a non-profit or government entity in communications, legislative, or community engagement efforts.
