Summary of Job Duties:

The Community Program Coordinator will work to increase the university's commercial and neighborhood revitalizations efforts, while participating and leading a wide variety of community development projects. The Program Coordinator will work with community groups, local government, banks, business owners, and partner organizations to improve and draw attention to the University District and increase participation in neighborhood activities. The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of the University District and will assist the Director in the efficient business operations of the University District. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, communications, or a related field;

  • Four or more years of experience in a non-profit, governmental, or community agency.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Previous experience working with community and elected officials;

  • Knowledge of the Little Rock community and network of organizations related to housing, food security, economic development, and/or neighborhood relations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance relationships with community groups, local government, schools, banks, business owners, and faith-based and partner organizations to improve and draw attention to the University District and increase participation in neighborhood activities;

  • Collaborate on seeking grant funding and financial support for University District programs, including assisting on proposal development to submit to funding agencies;

  • Represent the University District Department in the community and make presentations to community groups and individuals upon request and as appropriate;

  • Assist in marketing and public relations activities for University District, including social media, website, mailings and database maintenance;

  • Work with University District partners, including to plan, develop, fund and operate housing and community improvement programs for the University District area;

  • Work with the University District Neighborhoods Association, each individual neighborhood association, and area residents to build capacity and plan large community-based events;

  • Attend and participate in community programs and meetings;

  • Provide support to all University District programs, including University District Development Corporation, University District Neighborhoods Association, and the Oak Forest Community Garden;

  • Process requisitions and other actions through the university's business systems (i.e. purchase requisitions, travel expenses, catering orders).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the willingness to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations as a team;

  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local public policies pertaining to affordable housing, community development and neighborhood revitalization;

  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment, be innovative and creative in the identification of appropriate community partnerships;

  • Knowledge and understanding of how governmental agencies and organizations work and the ability to develop and maintain good relationships with governmental leaders and administrators;

  • Capabilities in basic computer skills (word processing, spread sheets, Internet, email, budget systems).

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a current driver's license.
