Community Planning and Education VISTA

The mission of West Central Alabama Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventive care, by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals in underserved Alabama communities through community/academic educational partnerships. The VISTA will help to strengthen county and community efforts to address public health challenges that affect the Blackbelt community. Member Duties : The VISTA will provide culturally and linguistically appropriate education to improve family members, caregivers, and the public's understanding of evidence-based treatments and prevention strategies for Substance Use Disorder/Opioid Use Disorders and to eliminate the stigma associated with the disease. They will implement a comprehensive plan to recruit, engage, and train individuals in recovery to become Certified Peer Recovery Supporters and community health workers.

They will also assist with various programs associated with the organization. We will be onboarding members on August 1st & 15th

Find, schedule and present volunteer opportunities and community activities to employees. Coordinates with credit union personnel to attend/work community events. Handles scheduling and getting event materials to branches for events. Assist in the preparation of materials as needed. Assists CE team with planning and execution of events and Community First Campaign. Assists with presenting at New Employee Orientation. Assists with the community event calendar and monthly report when required. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Performance Measurements: 1. Number of events that are scheduled/attended and volunteer opportunities. 2. Maintain an excellent knowledge of financial products and services offered by the credit union. 3. Carry out all assigned duties and responsibilities with minimum errors in a timely manner. 4. Provide informed, professional and accurate service and support to all members and employees. 5. Meet Community First Campaign goals. 6. Execute detail and meet deadlines. Knowledge and Skills: Experience One year to three years of similar or related experience. Education (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program. Interpersonal Skills Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication. Other Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Relates well to others regardless of their background or personality. Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and balance a variety of projects. Ability to make timely prudent decisions. Must be a self-starter with little need for supervision or outside motivation. Demonstrates enthusiasm, drive and ambition. Maintain a professional work environment and appearance. Ability to speak in public and motivate others. Physical Requirements Moderate lifting required. Work Environment Must be able to travel and work non-regular hours (evenings and weekends). Valid driver's license with ability to be insured by our insurance provider is required.
