  1. While training to pursue Pharmacy Technician licensure, the Community Pharmacy Trainee will gain experience in the following areas:

a. Complies with the general laws and regulations governing the dispensing of prescriptions.

b. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Pharmacy computer system. Inputs all required information to create and update patient profiles. Maintains POS product database. Resolves routine problems relating to the Pharmacy computer system. Generates, maintains and files all required reports.

c. Assists the Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions according to all departmental policies. Processes both new and refill prescriptions.

d. Obtains all required customer and/or insurance information and enters into pharmacy software.

e. Counts and labels products as assigned.

f. Cannot take prescriptions over the phone.

2.Screens telephone calls and answers inquiries within scope of practice.

3.Prioritizes workload so that all customers are serviced in a timely manner.

4.Verifies, at point of sale, that customers receive correct prescription(s).

5.Maintains working knowledge of all Pharmacy equipment.

6.Accurately processes all sales including check and credit card transactions. Reconciles cash register at end of shift and reconciles discrepancies.

7.Operates handheld inventory device and participates in periodic inventories. Processes and tracks returns to reverse distributor.

8.Maintains awareness of security processes, loss prevention techniques, causes and prevention of shrinkage and recognizes suspicious behavior. Reports all questionable practices to management.

9.Stays current with Pharmacy trends.



  1. Deliver medications to patients.

  2. May be authorized to perform the duties of a Pharmacy Technician while acting under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist.

  3. Receive and put away pharmacy deliveries.

  4. Keep front of the store over the counter section neat and stocked.

  5. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.

  6. Perform other work related duties as assigned or requested.


ADDITIONAL COMM PHARM TECH NATIONALLY CERTIFIED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Assists the Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions according to all departmental policies. Processes both new and refill prescriptions.

2.Obtains all required customer and/or insurance information and enters into pharmacy software.

3.Maintains knowledge base of brand and generic drug names as well as dosage forms.

4.Counts and labels products as assigned.

5.Communicates with insurance carriers to resolve rejected claims.

6.Processes vendor and distribution center orders and returns.

7.Reorders required stock from wholesaler, vendors or storeroom to maintain stock levels. Receives orders, applies appropriate budget codes and processes returns. Follows-up on backorders. Rotates and maintains stock.

8.Processes all invoices and purchase orders in accordance with established accounting procedures.

9.Complies with the general laws and regulations governing the dispensing of prescriptions.

ADDITIONAL CERTIFIED COMM PHARM TECH STATE CERTIFIED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Obtains refill authorizations by communicating effectively with prescribers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

Community Pharmacy Technician, State Licensed

  • Grade S7, Job Code

  • 7212

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

  • A high school diploma or GED.

  • Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.

  • Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • PTCB Certification preferred

  • Upon obtaining PTCB certification or equivalent certification, incumbent will transfer into the Community Pharmacy Technician, Nationally Certified

  • Grade S8, Job Code

  • 7213 position.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

Certified Community Pharmacy Technician

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

  • High School graduate or GED.

  • Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification or equivalent.

  • One-year recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a Pharmacy Technician; 3 years preferred, OR PTCB certification or equivalent certification as a Community Pharmacy Technician.

  • Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
