Community Outreach Coordinator

For one year, get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make an impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The community outreach coordinator plays a critical role in strengthening relationships through planning, coordination and implementation of projects in partnership with the community. These relationships with community residents, local organizations, elected officials and stakeholders help identify areas where Habitat for Humanity's housing and community development solutions can intersect with identified needs and aspirations.

  • Build relationships and partnerships with community residents, local organizations, elected officials and community stakeholders.

  • Identify community improvement projects and implement them from planning through completion.

  • Engage volunteers from the community to support local improvement projects.

  • Coordinate and document the implementation of Habitat's housing and community development solution in partnership with the community.

This position will focus on neighborhood revitalization aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: Newburgh is a city in Orange County, New York, United States. With a population of 28,856 as of the 2020 census, it is a principal city of the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metropolitan area. Located 60 miles north of New York City, and 90 miles south of Albany on the Hudson River within the Hudson Valley Area, the city of Newburgh is located near Stewart International Airport, one of the primary airports for Downstate New York. Newburgh is the location of numerous preserved landmarks, including Washington's Headquarters, the David Crawford House, New York State Armory, the Dutch Reformed Church, and Newburgh Colored Burial Ground.

  • Unique projects: Our enrollment in HFHI's Advancing Black Homeownership initiative aims to increase Black homeownership in Newburgh. We're partnering with local agencies to create citywide initiatives, including 3-5 community events. The impact will be measured by resident turnout and improvements in volunteer and donor recruitment. Additionally, our Community Outreach Coordinator will establish a workforce development program to provide employment opportunities for those at risk of community violence. We'll partner with local agencies to offer construction skills training, assisting at least 5 residents with permanent career placement. Lastly, our Community Outreach Coordinator will complete training courses/certifications in Professional Development at our local library. An overall improved computer acumen will be acquired through courses such as Introduction to Data Analytics, Introduction to Networks and Systems, and Digital Business Management, and will provide the Community Outreach Coordinator with skills that can be used during and post AmeriCorps membership.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
