Primary Function/General Purpose of Position -

The Community Medication Assist Advocate provides assessment and advocate services to county residents, who are indigent or otherwise ineligible for community assistance, in obtaining prescribed medication through the Med Assist Plus Program by applying to the Pharmaceutical Company programs. In addition, this position provides assistance to patients who need to apply for Medicare D insurance plans, Medicaid and Food Stamp assistance. This position is also responsible for supporting Med Assist Team and supports daily operations when needed.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as a patient advocate to complete and submit paperwork required by pharmaceutical companies to obtain medication through indigent programs or Government assistance programs to obtain medical coverage

  • Applies knowledge regarding Medicare D, Medicaid, and Food Stamp assistance

  • Verifies insurance coverage, Medical Necessity and Prior Authorizations for Medications and Therapies

  • Advocates on patient's behalf during appeals processes

  • Supports both Med Assist Assistants and managerial functions when needed

  • Maintains professional growth by participating in educational programs and In-service meetings

  • Assists Manager and Coordinator in addressing internal and external groups for fundraising and increasing public awareness of the program and participates on committees as directed

  • Maintains statistical data for administrative reports, grants and regulatory purposes

Licensing/Certification

Education

High School/GED Equivalent (required)

Associates' Degree in Healthcare, Business, or related field (preferred)

Work Experience

2 years of experience with Data Entry and Management (required)

2 years of experience with Patient and Physician Communication (required)

2 years of experience working with patients on a one one one basis (required)

2 years of experience reviewing financial information (required)

Training

Medicare D Enrollment (required)

Med Assist Database Expertise (preferred)

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
