Job Summary

Healing Hurt People (HHP), a program of the Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice at Drexel University in the Dornsife School of Public Health, is looking for a Community Intervention Specialist to join its team. HHP is a trauma informed, hospital and community-based program dedicated to decreasing the long-term consequences of trauma and to increasing physical and emotional healing amongst young people in Philadelphia. HHP abides by State, Community Behavioral Health (CBH), and Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) standards and regulations.

The Community Intervention Specialist (CIS) position will be based out of HHP's main office in downtown Philadelphia and St Christopher's Hospital for Children. This role will also work in coordination with other local hospitals, schools, and community-based partners.

Essential Functions

  • The CIS position will provide acute intervention, outreach, trauma-focused counseling, and case management for children and adolescents (ages 5 to 18) and adults (up to age 35) victims of or witnesses to interpersonal violence.

  • This position will provide clinical services in a non-traditional setting (hospital; home; school), utilizing a wide range of strategies to address symptoms of trauma and disruptions in daily living (safety, emotional management, loss, and future).

  • The candidate will provide clinical case management services, supporting individuals in the program in increasing connection to school, employment, family, social support, and social services.

  • This position necessitates a significant amount of community/home-based work, some evening hours, and a willingness to engage within a diverse range of neighborhoods in Philadelphia.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's level degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Family Therapy or Equivalent

  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Pennsylvania

  • Documented history of serving at-risk populations including racial and ethnic minority youth, communities living in poverty, individuals impacted by interpersonal trauma, violently injured Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQIA+) youth, and/or justice system involved youth.

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to offer historically marginalized and currently underserved individuals a high quality of service

  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated skills in, clinical counseling such as motivational interviewing and strengths-based case management

  • Willingness and ability to bill following Community Behavioral Health (CBH) guidelines for the services provided

  • Ability to complete the billing requirements including maintenance of timely and accurate chart records (including but not limited to intakes, treatment plans, notes)

  • A dynamic, organized, and flexible self-starter who is eager to provide community and hospital-based trauma-specific services to violently injured people and their families

  • Ability to document services provided to HHP participants in a timely and efficient manner

  • Professionalism with strong skills for engaging caregivers and other key family members, especially when working with children

  • Computer literacy (ability to compose and send emails, draft client case notes, use an internet-based database system, compose documents in Microsoft Word, and perform basic internet research)

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and writing skills

  • Ability to motivate and establish therapeutic alliance with clients

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to multi-task and effectively manage work at different sites (in-office and off-site)

  • Access to reliable personal transportation (car)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in trauma services

  • Experience providing services in a fee-for-service or billing environment (i.e., Community Behavioral Health provider)

  • Experience performing social services case management a plus

  • Documented training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and/or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47,490 to $71,230 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
