PURPOSE:

This role will serve as the face of our CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield government programs including Medicaid and Medicare in Southern Maryland. As a Community Health and Social Impact Specialist, you will be a part of a rapidly growing team, passionate about serving the members in the community.

Leveraging existing and new community relationships (e.g community-based organizations, faith-based, Federally Qualified Health Centers, etc), this role will be expected to identify, develop, and build partnerships with the objective of elevating awareness and education about CareFirst's Medicaid and Medicare programs.

The candidate will leverage CareFirst's assets, authentically engaging communities, and a diverse set of stakeholders to improve the health, economic, social and/or environmental quality of life in the region while also meeting CareFirst's strategic growth objectives.

This role reports directly to the Manager, Community Outreach and Development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages Community Partnerships: Develops regional community engagement plan to facilitate long-term CareFirst presence in Southern Maryland. Includes partnership identification, meetings with partners in the field, identifying partner and community needs (e.g. health education, food drives, capacity building, etc) Creating plans to design events and partnership building.

  • Event Support: Coordinates events with partners and internal resources.

    Includes representing the company on all activities leading up to, during and after onsite community events. Maximizes participation for key stakeholders, engaging social media and other corporate image related platforms. Works with Manager to identify opportunities to elevate partnerships via communications, event activations, and social media.

  • Supports Strategy and Reporting: Collaborates with Manager and philanthropic division to support partner grant/sponsorship identification that aligns to enterprise and divisional goals. Proactively manages portfolio of partners, including monthly and annual reports, press releases, and internal and external communications.

  • Facilitates Thought Leadership: Contributes to thought leadership and collaboration with partners on rural health.

    Supports the presentation of summary data to enable executive decision making. Participates in relevant philanthropic and health workgroups with external organizations. Keeps abreast of new approaches to addressing social determinants of health, health equity, and philanthropy to inform portfolio strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Education Details: Public health, marketing, business, communications, or related field.

Experience: 3 years progressively responsible professional experience in public health or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, marketing, communications, business or related field.

  • Additional languages welcome (i.e. Spanish).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Aptitude for community building, interacting across diverse stakeholders strategically, tactically, and analytically.

  • Excellent organizational skills and project management skills to manage multiple complex work deliverables simultaneously.

  • Ability to utilize standard corporate systems for word processing, data analysis and calendar management.

  • Maintain contemporary skills and knowledge within the field of philanthropy social determinants of health and health equity issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to research and to stay current/relevant on social determinants of health and health equity issues.

  • Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.

Salary Range: $61,560 - $122,265

Travel Requirements:

Monthly meeting at Baltimore HQ

Regional travel for onsite events in Southern Maryland
