SALARY $45,127.00 - $54,376.00 Annually

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant's education must be obtained from an accredited institution.

Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.

PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

A Community Health Educator II conducts and assists in the design and organization of health educational and promotional programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek.

Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS

All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have one year of experience performing public or community health education.

OR

NOTES (EQUIVALENCIES): Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience providing public or community health education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of community health education.

  • Knowledge of facts and prevention of a wide variety of diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, STD and Tuberculosis.

  • Knowledge of individual and group behavior.

  • Knowledge of community, group and organization dynamics.

  • Skill, in certain designated positions, in speaking, translating, reading and writing a non-English language utilizing specific established rules pertaining to such factors as spelling in letters or characters in a Latin or non-Latin-based alphabet or writing system, word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, punctuation and other related language mechanics.

  • Ability to develop health education and promotion programs.

  • Ability to utilize the computer and common business presentation software packages to prepare community health education and promotion materials.

  • Ability to conduct community Health presentations.

  • Ability to deal with community groups and organizations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
