Kansas City Research Institute conducts clinical trials yielding results that empower medical professionals, and patients to make informed health care decisions by advancing medical knowledge, promoting new and promising treatments, and facilitating access to otherwise unobtainable medications.

The Community Health Care Coordinator serves to educate community members and health care providers about clinical research, reducing stigma and other barriers to initiating or continuing health care options.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provides peer health education and support to the families, outlines the services available to patients, and recruits and enrolls patients for clinical trials.

  • Provides outreach in the community in ways that are most effective for the population and program. Outreach will include working out of community health care clinics, community centers, community events, and other activities within the community, as well as attending community events and conferences.

  • Provides peer health education and information about clinical trials and treatment options through individual encounters and home visits. Assess client needs and concerns as they relate to their family, their community, and their health.

  • Plans and leads group sessions and discussions on current trials and other assigned health topics.

  • Plans and organizes health fairs and other public events.

  • Develops relationships with local health care and social services providers and provides them with training or information to help them better serve the community and refer patients for trials.

  • Participates in networking and collaboration meetings that address the questions and concerns regarding clinical trials.

  • May assist in developing marketing materials to support the outreach efforts.

  • Reviews and is knowledgeable regarding inclusion/exclusion criteria for studies, so as to understand criteria and be able to speak about trial details.

  • May assist patients during visits by translating and guiding them through visit procedures.

  • May assist with conducting Fibroscans during outreach.

  • Maintain a positive, results oriented work environment, building partnerships within the team and across the organization at large, modeling teamwork.

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external clients to understand and meet their needs in line with company policies and procedures.

  • Perform all other duties that may be requested or assigned.

  • Flexibility with some evenings / weekends, to cover community health events

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Minimum Qualifications:

An associate's degree in marketing, health science or related field, AND 2+ years of healthcare experience, OR and equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 2+ years' experience in community outreach or clinical research is highly preferred. Must be bilingual (English / Spanish).

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft applications, email, web applications and the ability to type proficiently (40+ wpm).

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and math proficiency.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Must be Bilingual

  • English and Spanish.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and listening skills and the ability to work independently as well as with co-workers, subjects, managers, and external customers.

  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and adapt to changes in workloads and priorities.

  • Ability to be professional, respectful of others, self-motivated, and exemplify a strong work ethic.

  • A high degree of integrity and dependability.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, identify problems and implement solutions.
