SUMMARY

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading strategies for local, state, and regional community and government affairs, stakeholder relations, community partnerships, and corporate giving for Toyota Tsusho America.

The Community & Government Affairs Manager will be Toyota Tsusho America's primary liaison to state and local officials, associations, nonprofits, and related external stakeholders.

They will be responsible for coordinating, executing, and tracking community engagement & corporate giving for Toyota Tsusho America in the U.S.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Corporate Communications, Human Resources, and other departments, to champion community engagement among Toyota Tsusho America colleagues and support the development of long-term relationships with key community stakeholders.

It is also expected that this role identify and develop opportunities at the state and local levels to increase thought leadership on public policy priorities of Toyota Tsusho America, as well educate and inform internal audiences, including leadership, on public policy and the company's position on such policies.

This role will participate on behalf of the company in community and other stakeholder events aligned to corporate priorities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing and implementing clear action plans for state and local community and government affairs; community engagement; and corporate giving priorities of the company in key U.S. states/regions.

  • Enrolling key business leaders in strategic community and government affairs activities and regularly update executives on local developments, challenges, and opportunities.

  • Developing community relationships and executing strategic community partnerships aligned to identified priorities.

  • Identify, monitor, and guide the organization on relevant state and local government and stakeholder developments, risks, and opportunities for Toyota Tsusho America.

  • Coordinating priority community engagement and corporate giving initiatives in and around key communities where Toyota Tsusho America has current or future business operations.

  • As needed, execute public policy advocacy in a legally compliant, transparent, and ethical way.

  • Ability to identify, manage, and develop talented individuals, contractors, or address non-performance as well as effectively manage resources and budget.

  • Ensures that the company's established procedures are followed.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • The ability to design and execute a consistent, local community affairs and state-by-state government affairs strategy within agreed budget and timelines for NA region

  • 6+ years in local and state community affairs, government relations, communications, or similar work experience.

  • Exceptional and concise verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong history of leading teams, organizing talents with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

  • Proven capability of interacting with multiple levels of contacts, especially with senior officials

  • Recognized ability to work within diverse cross-functional teams

  • Ability to travel (up to 50%)

Bonus if you have:

  • Knowledge of battery/EV industry
