Pay: $19.25 per hour, or more, depending on experience.

Schedule: The regular schedule will be 8am-4pm, Mon-Fri, with frequent need to work evening and weekend hours to execute events.

Position Summary:

The Community Events Coordinator is responsible for company-wide community events including in-store and offsite events for Powell's Books and is the primary point of contact for organizing and managing partnerships. This role involves working with a variety of internal and external partners, securing event locations, and coordinating logistics to ensure successful events. The Community Events Coordinator will also manage communications and partnerships to foster community engagement and drive business goals. This position is part of the marketing team and reports to the Retail Marketing & Partnerships Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and manage a calendar of partnership and offsite events.

  • Coordinate with local vendors and venues to secure locations and services for events.

  • Prepare detailed event proposals and logistics plans.

  • Ensure all necessary permits and licenses are obtained for events.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote events through various channels.

  • Maintain and augment relationships with community organizations, local businesses, and other potential partners.

  • Identify and secure sponsorships and collaborations to enhance event offerings.

  • Coordinate all logistical aspects of events, including transportation, setup, and teardown.

  • Manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.

  • Handle last-minute changes and cancellations efficiently.

  • Work on-site during events to oversee execution and troubleshoot any issues.

  • Collect and analyze feedback to improve future events and report on event efficacy.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for event attendees and partners.

  • Provide exceptional customer service and ensure a positive experience for all participants.

  • Assist with in-store events as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience in events management or a related field.

  • Experience working with local vendors and community organizations is highly preferred.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Demonstrated budgetary management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and event management software.

  • Flexible and adaptable, willing to work non-traditional hours as needed.

  • Proactive and able to handle multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Current OR or WA driver's license required.

  • Must have and maintain a driving record that is compatible with company standards.

  • Love of books and customers.
