Full-time position available with the Neighborhood Services Department, Illegal Dumping Division, located at 414 E 12th St.

Salary Range: $27.25-$40.88/hour

Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and participates in inspections and investigations of private properties for property maintenance and nuisance code compliance, to-determine compliance with municipal ordinances, codes and regulations.

  • Supervises and participates in the research and investigation of property ownership, probate to determine heir-ship, death certificates, legal descriptions/boundaries, corporate records and identifies type of business entity to delineate fiscal responsibility relationships of property, utilizes skip-tracing techniques to obtain personal identifiers and locate property owners issuing summonses for court prosecution.

  • Assigns tasks and provides work instructions and assistance on unusual or complex problems and is reviewed for adherence to rapidly changing most current legal interpretations, and established technical and professional standards to obtain the desired results.

  • Trains in the effective use of available resources to expedite abatement of code violations and to educate code violators.

  • Undergoes extensive, ongoing, highly specialized training to develop legal, analytical, judgment and interpretive skills and investigative techniques in order to appropriately and successfully enforce the ordinances fully to each specific situation

Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 2 years of applicable experience in planning/zoning, nuisance housing, building construction or inspection, health, safety codes and ordinance inspection or investigations; neighborhood/community assistance code enforcement, background investigations or criminal justice; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO.

Must possess or be eligible to obtain required police commission from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S.

Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
