Overlake Medical Center and Clinics has an outstanding opportunity for a Community Engagement Specialist to join our team! The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for implementing the community outreach and education plan in support of the organization's vision to enhance the health and well-being of the Eastside community.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Develops programs and content to educate community members about Overlake's key services.

  • Leads, attends, coordinates, special events and classes independently and with local and national organizations, including group facilitation, corporate events, and community informational sessions.

  • Plans and arranges community outreach, education and event activities to ensure maximum participation with established and new community partners and internal stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with community partners and Overlake providers and staff in planning, developing, and monitoring health education activities and programs.

  • Builds strong working relationships with key community partners and serve as Overlake liaison to understand local dynamics and promote Overlake's services and programming.

  • Evaluates opportunities to enhance awareness of Overlake's services and develops strategies to address needs.

  • Develops communication to effectively promote events, including email, social media strategies, invitations, fliers, posters, brochures, programs, signs, ads, etc.

  • Organizes, tracks, measures, and evaluates community outreach, education and event activity progress to continuously improve efforts

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Valid Washington State driver's license is required.

  • Requires a minimum of three years marketing experience which includes content development and event planning.

  • Strategic and creative skills in project management, writing and presentation. Outstanding command of written and spoken English; fluency in Mandarin preferred. Flexibility, self-starting attitude and the interpersonal, organizational and cross-cultural collaboration skills needed to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent command of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge and experience working with print media, public relations, collateral, social media metrics and online platforms.

Responsibilities: * Responsible for developing and implementing Verizon's legislative strategy, community engagement tactics and content in support of company goals and positions across all business units enterprise-wide with a focus on issues including technology deployment. * Responsible for representing Verizon and working with third parties to influence policy makers at the municipal and state government level in the city of Seattle and surrounding jurisdictions in the state of Washington. * Accountable for strengthening Verizon's political impact using extensive government experience and network. * Supports Verizon state regulatory team to influence decisions in key regulatory initiatives. * Responsibilities relate to identifying and influencing proposed state legislative activities working with advocates. * Plans and executes strategies to ensure that any state legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company. * Interacts with members of the state's executive branch and with members of state and municipal legislative bodies. * Keeps management informed of pending legislation. * Serves as primary strategic liaison to company affiliations, special business, third party groups, grassroots local influencers and thought leaders. * Provides team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders. * Plans and develops strategic messaging. * Represents Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at committee meetings/hearings that address legislation impacting Verizon. * Compiles competitive intelligence. * Responsibilities relate to identifying and influencing proposed state and local legislative activities. What we're looking for... You'll need to have: * Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. * Six or more years of relevant work experience. * Five years of experience in state and municipal government relations with an understanding of local government and its external and internal influencers. * Experience in advocacy/issues management, community organizing, and coalition-building. * Knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the municipal and state level. * Willingness to travel. * Willingness to work in a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary. * Valid driver's license. Even better if you have: * Law degree * Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications policies and positions. * Knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory. * Knowledge concerning economic regulation in the communications, cable, or utilities industries. * Public policy, community engagement, advocacy experience on behalf of a technology, communications, cable TV or public utilities business/industry. * Strong network of contacts at the municipal level in City of Seattle and surrounding jurisdictions in the state of Washington. * Demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives. * Strong leadership skills. * Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity. * Strong organizational and planning skills required. * Ability to work with all levels of management.
