The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. NAEYC advances a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and supports all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.
NAEYC is seeking a Community Engagement Manager to play a central role in the association's member-driven digital content and member engagement strategy. With a laser-focus on increasing member value and engagement, the Community Engagement Manager takes strong ownership of the success of the face-to-face and online interest forum program. The Community Engagement Manager can move from the micro level of consistently enforcing community guidelines, with a customer-positive attitude, to thinking about new ways to engage the early childhood profession through forum activities. The Manager will connect people and ideas, is passionate about early childhood education, and will act on new ways to engage forum members in creating articles and blog posts, and is excited to brainstorm ways forums can engage new members.
In addition, the Community Engagement Manager is also responsible for providing hands on administrative support related to community online tools and interest forums as well as translating data into strategic decisions, growing member engagement through community building, and content sharing.
Primary Responsibilities and Key Objectives
Works with key forums to encourage conversations and engagement on important topics (Power to the Profession, K-3 issues, family child care).
Identifies key discussion threads and brings that content into Naeyc.org site search.
Actively engages on the "Hello" platform suggesting content or responses to key IF facilitators to post.
Monitors the "Hello" site and seeds questions as appropriate.
Organize Q&A, podcasts, or other opportunities with interest Forum members who are NAEYC authors or potential authors with an expectation of 8+ events to be scheduled a year.
Collaborates with other NAEYC staff to develop a concrete list of NAEYC opportunities for participation (advocacy, contributing content, etc.) and initiatives forums could contribute to. Develop a description of the opportunities to be shared with forums along with structures, processes, and outreach to forums so they can contribute to these NAEYC initiatives. Share the plan and materials with NAEYC staff who work with other NAEYC communities (accredited programs, consulting editors, etc.) so the various communities have this opportunity to participate.
Follow best practices work with the community to integrate and feature NAEYC content in online community discussions in alignment with membership and strategic content goals.
Engage with the online community by programming posts that will drive conversation, connect members with shared interests, and identify and recognize top contributors.
Creates a newsletter for IF facilitators that highlights NAEYC content they can promote on their social media vehicles.
Builds strong relationships with facilitators, acting alongside the Director as their key resource within NAEYC and encouraging their involvement and activities.
Manages ongoing blog posts by NAEYC Interest Forum leaders and members on emerging hot topics within the communities an expectation is that IF's contribute to a specified number of X blog posts a month [number determined by final version of guidelines].
Develop a monthly blog based on content leads and contribute ideas that represent the forums interests, suggest authors and contributors. In consultation with the content leads, reach out to IF facilitators to contribute to NAEYC's content efforts (outreach to forums "Ask Hello" column for each issue of TYC (5X a year).
Suggests Interest Forums members as potential authors and contributors to the wider NAEYC content team.
Monitor online communities daily, using customer-facing skills to gently enforce rules, identify posts that NAEYC staff need to respond to, and monitor discussion and involve relevant forum leaders as necessary to organize responses.
Ensures engagement by seeding conversations, recruiting participants, motivating facilitators to participate, and drawing members into conversations.
Monitor other social media sites/websites of existing Interest Forums and any related groups.
Face-to-Face and Online Interest Forum Engagement
Engage with Interest Forum Leaders on an ongoing, personal, basis via phone or virtual conference to encourage and support their involvement in the online community as well as other IF activities.
Support the work of the Interest Forums at annual meeting including managing forum proposal and review process, supporting mini-grants process, planning for IF and Hello promotional efforts, and attending business meetings and other forum events at annual.
Support ongoing, "always on" activities of interest forums, including periodic virtual meetings and webinars throughout the year and the work of mini-grants applicants to promote membership on an ongoing basis.
Coordinates with relevant departments to promote online communities through social media postings, email campaigns, and other forms of advertising and promotion.
Work with facilitators to promote their discussion and related topics on their social media platforms regularly update interdepartmental content calendar with proposed topics of interest/postings.
Coordinate member-facing promotions as appropriate with relevant audiences.
Platform and community maintenance and knowledge
Conduct regular content and engagement audits.
Provides regular engagement trainings to empower and support facilitators.
Oversee technical aspects of the community to include working with the community vendor to address, resolve, and communicate any issues related to the features and functionality of the platform and implementing new features as necessary.
Serves as in-house expert on the Hello platform and monitors new features and make recommendations on the integration of these features.
Strategy and Data
In coordination with the Director of Digital Content, plan for and support Interest Forums presence at conferences.
Track interest-forum related invoices and budgeting in collaboration with the Director of Digital Strategy.
Plan interest forum events and catering at Annual Conference and the Professional Learning Institute by working with the Director and the meetings and conference department.
Disseminate NAEYC Interest Forum Guidelines and assist with formation of new forums and revitalization of moribund forums.
Serve as point of contact for Interest Forum Facilitators and Members.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent writer and communicate.
High comfort level using new tools and community and social media platforms.
Ability to be flexible and manage multiple tasks at once.
Knowledge of and an interest in early childhood education.
Strong self-starter and sense of ownership.
1-5 years' experience growing community using online tools and social media platforms.
Experience with regular reporting and metrics, and using data to drive content decisions.
Interest in and knowledge of early childhood education.
