WHO WE ARE:
The Walla Walla Immigrant Rights Coalition (WWIRC) was formed in 2017. We seek to empower immigrants in the Walla Walla Valley to prosper. We do this by providing space, and supporting efforts to listen, celebrate, and amplify the voices and experiences of our immigrant community, and by creating opportunities for immigrants to engage with and connect to the services and information they need to thrive. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated person to serve in the role of Community Engagement Coordinator/Promotora to join our team and support our efforts in advancing immigrant rights in the Walla Walla Valley and beyond.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Engagement Coordinator/Promotora position is a full-time, 40 hours a week role that personally connects with the immigrant community of the Walla Walla Valley. This position has funding for 1-year with the possibility of extension, contingent upon future funding. The coordinator will build strong relationships with the immigrant community of the Walla Walla Valley, connecting them to relevant and culturally appropriate resources and other opportunities to thrive. The coordinator will participate in, and assist in planning outreach and engagement opportunities that serve to advocate for our community's well being and rights. This includes meeting with community members, accompanying them directly with a local service provider, planning educational workshops, and representing our organization at community events. They will serve as a champion for immigrants by ensuring their holistic lives and identities are honored, celebrated, and experiences are amplified, and cared for.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Please note that several of these responsibilities will be shared with other staff, which we hope to bring onboard in the coming year.):
Foster partnerships:
Build and maintain relationships with community leaders as well as existing and potential partner organizations
Liaise with partners and service providers to understand their offerings
Maintain a list of community services and providers
Educate and advocate with partners on behalf of our constituents
Coordinate with local partners for seamless referrals
Support our community members:
Meet with community members during office hours to understand and address their needs
Educate members of available services and their rights as immigrants
Assist and accompany community members to connect them with other organizations and service providers
Support The Listeners Project/Queremos Escucharte:
Identify populations in need of additional representation
Identify potential community members/ interviewees
Conduct interviews
Determine organizational priorities to address identified needs
Develop growth opportunities for interviewed individuals
Provide emergency assistance:
Handle hotline inquiries with support from staff and volunteers
Manage hotline volunteer coordination and coverage
Evaluate and recommend emergency assistance requests to the ED
Distribute emergency aid or refer to service providers
Maintain records of assistance requests and distributions
Plan events and raise the visibility of our organization:
Organize and manage community gatherings and topical trainings
Represent WWIRC at community events
Identify advocacy opportunities for WWIRC
Conduct outreach, promote events, and draft newsletter content
Follow up with event participants as needed
Communicate with members and promote our work to the public:
Manage communications with WWIRC members
Oversee social media pages
Plan meetings to inform members and the public about initiatives
Promote advocacy for government initiatives benefiting undocumented and immigrant communities
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience working across cultures, particularly with our target population
Background in related issue areas and organizations
Passionate and knowledgeable about immigrant rights
Bilingual (Spanish/English) or Multilingual
Flexible schedule and availability
Car and valid driver's license
OTHER DESIRED SKILLS:
Fluency in Spanish is a plus
Event planning experience
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary range is $58,000-$63,000 depending on experience
