Positions are located at Pender Correctional Institution in Burgaw, NC.  Pender Correctional Institution is a medium security institution that houses approximately 750 male offenders.

This is to fill three vacancies:  60069923, 60069935, 65025484

  • Develops plans for classes held in the Day Treatment Program.

  • Responsible for daily management and instruction of the Day Treatment program to include, but not limited to the managing the horticulture, sewing and carpentry classes.

  • Serves as a part of the interdisciplinary team and provides feedback regarding participation, motivation and performance for developmentally disabled offenders assigned to the program.

  • Utilizes principles, methods and techniques associated with the principals of cognitive behavior therapy to improve social and independent living skills.

  • Documents individual goals along with evaluation and progress.

  • Educates offenders on constructive time management, appropriate leisure and recreation skills and activities.

  • Maintains offender confidentiality.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • Maintains a budget for equipment and program needs.

  • Assists with data collection and prepares reports.

  • Maintains unit in a clean and orderly fashion.

  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations as appropriate.

  • Performs administrative duties required.

  • This position reports to the Psychological Services Coordinator.

  • Instruction, consultation, and direction would be provided by direct supervisor.

  • Tools used are office machines, sewing machine, woodworking tools, and horticulture tools.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC06.   State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

  • Documented experience working with offenders or individuals with mental illness/developmental disabilities

Bachelor's degree in a human services or business field such as human resources, marketing, business administration, business management, healthcare management, or public administration from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate's degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
