Vocational Enterprises (VE) strives to provide meaningful vocational experiences and employment opportunities at the highest pay feasible for as many MDC residents as possible.  VE is also responsible for the paid employment in a variety of locations across the Murdoch campus.  All the programs that VE operates function as a means for people of all ages to develop functional skills and behaviors that have been identified as education programs. Vocational services at MDC has a primary focus on the development of work readiness skills that will ultimately lead to competitive integrated employment for individuals upon their discharge from MDC.

The primary purpose of this position located within Supportive Employment Program (SEP) is to provide instructional training and supervision to individuals with developmental, behavior, and/or physical disabilities on a mobile work crew at a variety of community job sites.  Staff assigned to the crew routinely monitor/perform on-site training of basic vocational skills (e.g., sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, and small debris pick up), and are responsible for making decisions should problematic situations arise.

This position will be responsible for

  • providing input for some goal planning, activities, and recommendations regarding work assignments based on skills and abilities.

  • Job duties/training activities are often adjusted to accommodate changes on job sites and or to specifications.  This position will be 

  • responsible for conducting assessments to determine appropriate skill development while working out in the community.

Scheduled work hours: 8-5, Monday - Friday. Occasional work hours outside of normal work schedule due to programming needs.

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays, retirement, etc.

  • Direct experience using behavior management techniques, task analysis techniques, and teaching strategies for individuals with I/DD.

  • Knowledge of employment options for individuals with physical and mental disabilities .

Ability to obtain NVCI, First Aid, and CPR certifications.

Management Preferences

  • Ability to develop rapport with individuals with IDD and to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and other support staff.

  • Ability to functionally use MS Word to type progress notes/activities

  • Physical ability to interact with individuals performing a variety of onsite job duties

  • Ability to organize and plan his/her schedule with minimal supervision and think creatively and problem solve .

Bachelor s degree in a human services or business field such as human resources, marketing, business administration, business management, healthcare management, or public administration from an appropriately accredited institution;

or

Associate s degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
