Community ELA Adjunct Instructor (Mpop)

Position

Reporting directly to the Dean and/or Associate Dean of ELA and IBEST, the MPOP Community ELA Instructor plays a crucial role in providing specialized instruction and support for the Massage Parlor Outreach Project (MPOP). This grassroots initiative focuses on organizing and empowering migrant Asian massage parlor workers and care workers in the Seattle Chinatown/International District and greater Seattle area. The primary goal is to build worker power through organizing, leadership development, and addressing gender-based violence, colonization, and criminalization.Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as needs arise within each department. Deans will evaluate applications periodically and contact candidates as adjunct positions become available. Note that applications may be reviewed at any time while this posting remains active.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

Culturally Competent Instruction:

• Demonstrate multicultural competence, including awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations.

• Create an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Program Development and Leadership:

• Provide leadership in improving access and successful educational outcomes for underrepresented populations.

• Develop contextualized curriculum and alternative delivery methods tailored to the unique needs of MPOP participants.

Student Support and Assessment:

• Assess, monitor, and document student performance within the MPOP context.

• Advise students in meeting their educational goals, emphasizing language skills relevant to massage-related workspaces.

Collaboration and Outreach:

• Work collaboratively with MPOP team members and community partners.

• Assist in developing, assessing, and analyzing program outcomes specific to MPOP objectives.

Language Access and Skill Development:

• Teach in Mandarin and English to ensure language accessibility for the MPOP community.

• Provide basic English instruction tailored to massage-related workspaces.

Flexible Teaching Style:

• Willingness to travel to the International District.

• Availability for early morning sessions from 7:30-9:00.

• Provide remote/hybrid teaching to accommodate diverse learning needs.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated leadership in working with diverse populations.

• Bachelor's Degree in Education (TESOL or Adult Education preferred) and relevant teaching experience.

• Ability to design interactive learning experiences respectful of cultural differences.

• Proficiency in Mandarin and the ability to teach skill areas relevant to MPOP.

• Experience working with adult learners and employing various teaching strategies.

• Excellent communication skills in both writing and oral English.

• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team and maintain accurate records.

• Previous experience in curriculum development is advantageous.

• Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.

• Ability to represent MPOP and the college in a positive and professional manner.

Terms of Employment

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis.Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at$980per credit,which includes scheduled class time and final exam days.Master's or Doctorate degreestipendsare paidona prorated per credit ratequarterly.

Degree Stipend:

Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate quarterly.

• Quarterly Master's stipend: $967
• Quarterly Doctorate stipend: $1,935

The person hired isrequiredtoprovideauthorization for employment in the United States.
