Overview & Responsibilities

We currently have a full time opening for a Community Relations Representative at Harmon Funeral Home in Staten Island, New York. This is the opportunity to be part of the Dignity Memorial provider network and grow your career in the funeral, cremation and cemetery services business. Promotes programs and develops community relationships for the funeral home, cemetery, crematory or a combination of these facilities by actively participating in community service organizations, activities and/or outreach programs. Develops and maintains relationships with client families, hospice agencies, local religious groups/clergy, geriatric service providers, educational institutions, hospice organizations and other key business leaders within their community.

  • Establishes and maintains positive relations with client families, hospice agencies, local government agencies, veteran's groups, law enforcement agencies, hospitals and Chambers of Commerce as well as other key business leaders with the community such as physicians groups, hospices and local law firms.

  • Acquires approved memberships and participates actively in selected community organizations.

  • Communicates with management to ensure all company initiatives are followed and conveyed through the involvement of both public and private sponsored programs.

  • Makes presentations at educational seminars, public information speaking engagements, and conduct tours of funeral home and/or cemetery facilities.

  • Sets priority of which senior citizen programs, school programs, church programs, local activities are the best venues for company involvement.

  • Networks within the community to assist management in locating and recruiting potential candidates for employment.

  • Controls expenditures to remain within level approved by management.

  • Responds to requests for referrals and/or information on funeral and cremation information and other related topics at the location or via telephone

  • Arranges public speaking engagements with local schools, colleges, and religious organizations.

  • Prepares and distributes designated progress reports to management measuring the effectiveness of each program to include costs and ongoing schedule of future engagements and participation.

  • Assists with funeral, memorial and other services or ceremonies as requested by funeral home clients and management

  • Assists in the development, organization and ongoing maintenance of Client Family Relations program after funeral services or other memorialization.

  • Presents seminars/conferences/workshops dealing with grief, grief psychology, death and dying subjects to be offered to community organizations as needed.

  • Generates activity reports, newsletters and bulletins

  • Maintains grief library

  • Develops and implements calls to the bereaved and support programs intended to assist the bereaved

  • Promotes brand awareness

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent


  • 1 -5 years of experience in public relations, community outreach, event planning or fund raising

  • Previous experience in customer service or sales required.
