We are seeking a Community Development Intern to support the award-winning HUD Exchange website, which centralizes resources for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD's) grantees, providing training, guidance, tools, reports, policy help desks, and much more. The Community Development Intern will support delivering fresh, innovative, and user-focused content and responding to a wide array of user needs for the HUD Exchange. The Community Development Intern will work on multiple tasks concurrently and assume an active role on the HUD Exchange project team within ICF's Housing and Community Development (HCD) Practice. The Community Development Intern will be expected to work as part of teams to execute tasks that support the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. For this position, the tasks will largely focus on responding to user inquiries, drafting web content, and providing project support.

The Community Development Intern should have interest in affordable housing and community development, excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong problem-solving skills. Some experience in digital content is preferred. This position offers the potential for advancement. This part-time position will be starting in May 2020.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the promotion of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple tasks with all levels of staff

  • Drafting responses to user inquiries

  • Supporting the delivery of webinars

  • Drafting website content

  • Supporting administrative efforts

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Policy Studies, Urban Planning, Communications, or related subjects

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Interest in affordable housing and community development issues

  • Interest in technology and web design/development

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills

  • Strong written and oral communications skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to work in a team environment

  • Ability to work on multiple projects under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Your Key Responsibilities Primary: * Sustaining and growing revenue within the DC metro market, helping to achieve top line growth for the business unit, and working collaboratively with the project team to achieve key operational performance metrics. * Leading local business development pursuits, and coordinating a core team of professionals to achieve business development and financial goals. * Working with the Business Center Managing Leader (BCML) and other BC leaders, assisting with developing the annual business plan and budget for the business center. * Contributing to the development and execution of the national business strategy for the Community Development group, with accountability for region-specific strategies and priorities. People Management: * Assist in resource management processes, recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, and leadership development within the BC. * Assist the BCML and BCDL on the Career Development and Performance Review (CDPR) forms for staff, salary reviews, and bonus evaluations. Collaboration: * Working collaboratively with the other Business Center leaders to achieve key business development, financial and operational performance goals across Stantec. * Collaborate with Regional and National Sector Leader's (SL's) to develop and leverage expertise across offices. * Facilitate collaboration among integrated practice groups (i.e. Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering) Marketing and Business Development: * Manage local business development pursuits including strategic proposal development for the group and coordinating a core group of professionals to achieve business development and financial goals. * Serve as a seller-doer generating work, creating long-term relationships and delivering long-term value to clients for Stantec. * Leading and coordinating business development efforts, including market research, client relationships, developing leads, and securing contracts. * Developing and driving marketing and business development (M&BD) plans, budgets, and key performance indicators. * Developing, reviewing, and approving proposals, reports, and contract documents in accordance with Stantec policy. * Developing and maintaining industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, competitor/teaming partners, and potential recruits. * Attending selected conferences and maintaining active memberships in associations (such as board posts and committee memberships).
