Our agency is looking to INTERNALLY fill a full-time, non-permanent Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) vacancy within the Community Corrections Division. This position works for the Seattle Special Needs Unit located at the Seattle Community Justice Center (CJC), 1550 4th Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98134. This non-permanent appointment is expected to last about six months.

This position's main responsibility is the production of Pre-Sentence Investigations reports, Risk Assessment Reports, and Mental Health Sentence Alternative Reports. Once completed, these reports are submitted to the Court to assist in sentencing decisions. These positions involve investigation through document searches, face-to-face interviews, and coordination with attorneys, Courts, and other stakeholders.

  • Unofficial Transcripts

- Internal DOC candidates: It is highly recommended you submit your transcripts when required. If your transcripts have been placed in your personnel file, contact your primary HR Consultant to obtain a copy so you can submit a complete application packet.

  • Independently conduct detailed Pre-Sentence investigations (PSI) as ordered by King County Superior Court. Produces PSI Reports, Risk Assessment Reports, and Mental Health Sentence Alternative Reports to assist the court in sentencing decisions. Work with other CCO's around the state on the production of such reports in cases where defendants have relocated prior to sentencing.

  • Supervise individuals ordered to supervision in the community in accordance with Washington State law, Interstate Compact Rules/Regulations, and agency policy within prescribed timeframes.

  • Engage with individuals to encourage and work towards positive change.

  • Mentor and enforce supervision conditions and the law.

  • Lead other Community Corrections Officers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Two years as a Community Corrections Officer with the Washington State Department of Corrections.

  • Must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Washington.

OR

  • A Bachelor's degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent.

  • Three years of professional case management experience in adult or juvenile corrections or closely related field that includes at least three of the following:

  • Making field visits

  • Writing reports

  • Assessing cases and making recommendations

  • Referring people to appropriate resources

  • Presenting cases in court or hearings

  • Must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Washington.

OR

  • A Master's degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or closely related field from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and Council for Higher Education (CHEA), or foreign equivalent.

  • Two years of professional case management experience in adult or juvenile corrections or closely related field that includes at least three of the following:

  • Making field visits

  • Writing reports

  • Assessing cases and making recommendations

  • Referring people to appropriate resources

  • Presenting cases in court or hearings

  • Must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Washington.

Case management activities include assessment of risk factors; designing, monitoring and/or facilitating treatment plans; determining and making referrals to resources as appropriate (chemical dependency, substance abuse, family counseling, job training assistance, etc.); maintaining official records and tracking client progress/compliance; and assisting individuals who are unable to independently access support systems or community resources such as those providing food, clothing, or monetary assistance and shelter.

  • Knows and applies relevant law, policy, procedure and practice. Adheres to productivity standards and timelines established by law and policy. Identifies own training needs and proactively seeks training opportunities.

Adaptability

  • Incorporates new information into an existing framework of understanding. Accepts change and supports the Agency through changes in law, policy, and procedure.

Telework Details

This position may be allocated for telework for up to one day each week. If approved, work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hot spot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner; to take proper care of all state-issued equipment; and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a "drop in" area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility may not be provided.
