Definition
The City of Colton is now recruiting for two (2) part-time Community Child Care Teacher's Aide positions. Transcripts must be uploaded to be considered for this position. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies.
The filing deadline is May 26, 2024, @ 11:59 p.m., or when 50 applications have been received.
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, assist in the implementation of the School Age Program (SAP) or a State Preschool Program (SPP).
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)
Assist Site Supervisors and Teachers in the implementation of educational, fun and age-appropriate activities.
Lead activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and tutoring/homework assistance in the SAP.
Observe, document, and assess children in the program, using the appropriate mandated tool/instrument.
Assist in the planning of curriculum activities and weekly lesson plan.
Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
Assist in the maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
Assist in operating the site in an efficient and safe manner.
Interact with parents/guardians on a daily basis.
Be actively involved in the activities of program participants.
Be a role model for and provide leadership to program participants.
Be culturally sensitive to the needs and interests of minority families.
Attend parent/staff in-service meetings.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of six (6) Early Childhood Education Units from an accredited college or university. Additional course work in child development, education, or recreation is highly desirable. Experience in a licensed childcare center is preferred but not required.
License/Certificate:
Possession of a valid class C California driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain upon hire, a Child Development permit, Assistant level or higher.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within one month of employment, Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certifications.
Additional Information
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, objectives and philosophy of child development program. Educational, recreational and social needs of children from pre-school to school age. Knowledge of child behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
Ability to:
Communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Be self motivated and able to initiate activities.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities desirable.
Skill to:
Operate a motor vehicle on City streets.

Temporary/Part-Time Appointments: Temporary/Part-time appointments do not qualify for City benefits, except for those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 8% of base earnings. There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.
Eligible for 40 hours of sick time after working 90 days.
