Definition

The City of Colton is now recruiting for two (2) part-time Community Child Care Teacher positions. Transcripts must be uploaded to be considered for this position. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies.

DESCRIPTION:

Under the general supervision of the Community Child Care Site Supervisor, to provide instruction in a School Age Program (SAP) and/or a State Preschool Program (SPP) with activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth..

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The position may exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level support staff.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)

  • Plan and execute age-appropriate activities that enrich the child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical attributes.

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and procedures for maintaining order.

  • Observe, document, and asses children in the program, using the appropriate mandated tool/instrument.

  • Assist in the supervision of teacher's aids, teacher's helpers, volunteers, and other assigned staff.

  • Provide tutorial/homework assistance in the SAP.

  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use both in learning activities and in imaginative play.

  • Follow guidelines set by the program administrators, the State licensing office, and the State Department of Education.

  • Assist in the compilation of materials for program quality in accordance with State Department of Education annual self-review.

  • Ensure maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.

  • Maintain the site in an efficient and safe manner.

  • Interact with and support parents/guardians of children on a daily basis.

  • Attend staff meetings, in-service, and parent meetings as required.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with school site administrators, teachers, staff, and district personnel.

  • Assist in the completion of the desired results developmental profiles.

  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess a high School Diploma or equivalent and twelve (12) core semester units or equivalent quarter units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, recreation and/or elementary education from an accredited college or university. Six (6) months paid experience as a Teacher in a licensed child care facility is required, including 50 days of 3+ hours experience per day within the last two years.

License/Certificate:

Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license.

Possession of, or ability to obtain upon hire within six (6) months, a Child Development permit, Associate Teacher level or higher.

Possession of, or ability to obtain upon hire, CPR and First Aid certification.

Additional Information

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:

Knowledge of principles and methods of teaching and instruction for individuals and groups; objectives and philosophy of a child development program. Ability to plan and implement a daily lesson and a Weekly Lesson Plan. Observe and asses children using an age-appropriate instrument. Educational, recreational and social needs of children from pre-school to school age. Knowledge of child behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation. Communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Be self-motivated and able to initiate activities. Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities desirable. Operate a motor vehicle on City streets.

Selection Process: Possession of the minimum qualifications does not ensure that an applicant will be invited to the next phase of the examination process. The City reserves the right to invite only the most qualified applicants to participate in the successive parts of the process.

Temporary/Part-Time Appointments: Temporary/Part-time appointments do not qualify for City benefits, except for those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 8% of base earnings. There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.

Eligible for 40 hours of sick time after working 90 days.
