The Community Activities Officer - Program Specialist Officer (CAO-PSO) will facilitate a variety of programs/presentations focused on at-risk youth and their families in Midland County. The CAO-PSO role will deliver and evaluate a planned and appropriate activity program for juveniles referred to services that enhance and enable their physical, social, cultural, psychological and emotional wellbeing with achievable outcomes. This staff will be receiving the department's referrals from Juvenile Prosecutor's review meetings to process for the S.O.A.R.S. Program Classes and the First Offender Program Classes. This Position will work with M.I.S.D., City of Midland, Area Mental Health Agencies, Area Substance Abuse Entities, and all other Law Enforcement for planning, evaluation, and implementation of prevention/intervention courses. The CAO-PSO will be under general supervision and report to Deputy Chief JPO of Programs, Intake, & Training.

  • Maintain community outreach to provide information about prevention/probation programs.

  • Educate and provide at-risk youth and/or family related presentations on a variety of topics such as bullying, family relationship building and coping strategies, drug awareness and prevention.

  • Facilitate and supervise S.O.A.R. & First Offender Program Classes at the department.

  • Be prepared to provide presentations related to Juvenile Crime prevention/intervention for youth.

  • Coordinates closely with referral services to monitor juvenile's compliance with referral programs including attendance and participation

  • Prepare and maintain paper/electronic documents, files and records for compliance with required department and state standards (e.g. agendas, sign-in sheets, and presentations).

  • Maintain a working relationship with the community in providing prevention and educational programming.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of curriculum-based programs for youth.

  • Maintain regular personal contact with family members; model and reinforce appropriate social interactions for them.

  • Assist juvenile probation officers with field visits and placement visits.

  • Assist juvenile probation officers with transport for youth in and out of Midland County.

  • Willing and able to work non-traditional hours when needed.

  • Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must be over the age of 21, a U.S. Citizen, have valid Texas driver's license, pass a criminal background check, and graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate

Juvenile justice system; Texas Family Code, juvenile law; all TJJD standards, and standard office practices and procedures
