Performs specialized shift work within the Public Safety Department. Receives, screens and monitors emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and other public safety agencies by radio or telephone; monitors camera screen bank for security and emergency purposes and a series of computer terminals for security and operational problems; provides computer control functions which control air, door control and various other functions.
Maintains communications with all parties involved in emergency situations; conveys information to/from emergency personnel, general public, public safety agencies, utilities, businesses and other personnel within the Department. Dispatches appropriate personnel to incident locations; monitors radio traffic and maintains awareness of activities. Supervision is received from an administrative supervisor but some initiative and responsibility are exercised.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of one (1) year of experience in dispatching.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE: Receiving calls and dispatching emergency personnel for assistance; operating a two-way radio/paging system; completing/maintaining detailed records/logs; dispatching during a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado or flood.
Also desirable: Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations governing proper and legal radio communications (must specify on application); knowledge of Palm Beach County geographic area (must specify on application).
40 Variable hours/week, including weekends and holidays; will be required to work during emergencies.
