Job Summary:

The Communications Generalist will help build and protect the company's reputation through internal and external communications programs, including executive visibility and speaking engagements; employee communications; thought leadership; media relations; corporate reputation awards/rankings; social media; issues management; and reputation event management. The responsibilities are relevant to our businesses, create excitement and build equity among Ingersoll Rand's stakeholders, including customers, employees, shareholders, communities, nonprofit organizations and media.

He or she will closely coordinate with communications business partners for the strategic business units (SBUs) and other corporate functions (e.g., finance, global integrated supply chain, legal, information technology and engineering).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute employee communications projects and internal campaigns to create culture and employee engagement

  • Ensure consistent execution of company announcements, and the communication of key initiatives and strategies

  • Manage and execute a pipeline of effective and efficient two-way communications between employees, managers and leaders

  • Execute and improve employee communications channels including portal, video, web casts, town hall meetings, events, etc.

  • Implement social and new media strategies to drive greater employee interactions and engagement

  • Build effective relationships and deep understanding of business needs to identify opportunities to apply internal communications strategies to address business needs and opportunities.

  • Support and monitor communication tools/channels (e.g., Sharepoint sites, mailboxes, blogs, newsletters, etc.)

  • Support other communications activities and projects as assigned/necessary

  • Support growth priorities and initiatives by effectively executing thought leadership and public relations programs across all media platforms.

  • Build strong relationships with media writers/editors, bloggers, thought leaders, non-financial industry analysts and association members

  • Partner with product management and marketing in SBUs to establish tactical public relations plans, including the messaging and positioning or products and solutions, while maintaining brand consistency and building the family of brand story.

  • Write news releases, employee communications, byline articles, annual reports, media pitch materials, media background documents, briefing documents, scripts, PowerPoint presentations and Q&A's

  • Build effective relationships and deep understanding of business needs to identify relevant, compelling and engaging content across the organization and maximize appropriate use of content across all communications channels

  • Serve as the "voice" of Ingersoll Rand / strategic brand-owned social media channels

  • Monitor Ingersoll Rand-owned communications channels and work with content owners across SBUs and regions to identify, create and revise content to enhance corporate reputation, employee engagement, thought leadership and brand favorability

  • Assist in corporate and SBU events in terms of creating executive briefing materials and organizing logistics for corporate reputations events

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent, preferably in communications, business management or marketing

  • 2-5 years directly related experience

  • Positive work attitude and be able to focus on supporting and completing assigned projects and meeting deliverables

  • Must be able to work well with diverse groups, be a team player, possess analytical and "client service" skills, be an innovative thinker, and a self-starter

  • Must possess strong written, listening and verbal communications skills Must possess innovative thinking skill and be adaptive to multi-cultural environments

  • Must excel and thrive in fast-paced environments Ability to source and coalesce information from multiple data points and develop a point of view

  • S/he will have the ability to manage project timelines and determine work flow effectively and appropriately; computer proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel required
