Job Description:

Job Description / Responsibilities :

Candidate will perform operations and maintenance (O&M) of one or more unique communications systems. Job functions include maintaining/monitoring networked computer systems and troubleshooting issues. O&M requires maintaining custom system(s) with current security patches, anti-virus protection, system backups, monitoring server health, collection/review of audit logs, up-to-date operating systems and associated scripting.

Required and Preferred Skills and Qualifications:


  • Previous experience as a systems administrator

  • Understanding of network systems and thorough understanding of TCP/IP

  • Excellent written communication skills, articulate and proactive

  • Some experience with Unix-based systems administration (e.g. Linux)

  • Some practical experience with OpenVPN and IPSec tunneling

  • Linux O/S and kernel development, esp. in networking, packet filtering, and configuring Linux IPTables

  • Familiarity with all audit logs and performing system backups

  • Managing user accounts and data access controls with Active Directory Services along with administering Domain Name System (DNS)

  • Previous experience with anti-virus scanning/updates

  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance-tuning skills

  • Ability to follow good engineering and programming practices

  • Strong team player and independent contributor

  • Communicate effectively with peers and support staff to highlight and clarify software and system design elements


  • Prior experience within the IC
  • Experience with wi-fi communications

  • The work will be performed at GCI's Chantilly location

  • Very low travel requirements

The individual will execute analysis, research, document, and perform testing tasks to support the maturation of the system. The candidate will work with other team members on complex tasks and must be comfortable working individually on smaller tasks. The candidate must also have experience interacting with customers and feel comfortable facilitating discussions. What You'll Get to Do: Responsible for facilitating the process to collect and define client requirements. Provides advice and recommendations on process best practices. Performs analysis on business or systems processes to identify improvements. Works with clients to understand and define needs and develop and recommend solutions. Interacts and communicates with end-users, management, vendors, and IT personnel. Produces functional design specifications based on user requirements. Maintains deep knowledge of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) applications (e.g., SAP, Oracle, and Momentum). Performs configuration and designs functional solutions (e.g., reports, interfaces, workflows, and extensions) for specific application and third-party systems. The candidate will perform these tasks: * Analyze business and user needs, update and/or document requirements, and develop/execute test plans. Facilitate/Participate in customer work sessions to gather and document requirements. * Configure Momentum systems settings based on customer requirements. * Translate business requirements into test scripts; execute tests against developed systems, and document results. * Write and execute SQL queries. * Troubleshoot to determine the source of systems errors. * Find and log systems defects using software tools, including steps required to repeat, and track defects to closure. * Develop subject matter expertise for assigned Momentum subsystems or custom extensions. * Provide subject matter expertise in support of technical activities. You'll Bring These Qualifications: * US Citizen with a current TS/SCI clearance and Polygraph. * Must possess an active polygraph. * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 7+ years of related experience. * Experience with IT systems functional analysis, requirements design, test development, and test execution. * Ability to work effectively individually and in a team environment. * Excellent oral and written communications skills. * Detail oriented and organized; able to understand work problems and procedures and ensure accuracy of work and careful documentation. * Ability to obtain DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (ie. CCNA Security, GSEC, Security+ CE, or SSCP) within 6 months of hire. These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have * Demonstrated knowledge and experience with software development lifecycle. * Ability and initiative to set goals and execute. * Ability to understand the day-to-day operational needs of customers.
