Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Education is an academic unit reporting to the Provost. The School is a major center of research, teaching, and public service within the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world.
The School offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The mission of the School of Education is to conduct research, and generate basic and applied knowledge about human development, educational technology and entrepreneurship, teaching and learning, school counseling, school psychology, administration, as well as educational policy and leadership; prepare leaders in the profession of education by conducting outstanding research, teaching, and service; and assist in the development of strong and effective public schools in North Carolina. In order to fulfill its mission, the School is organized into three academic divisions: (1) Culture, Curriculum, & Teacher Education (CCATE), (2) Learning, Development & Psychological Sciences (LDPS), and (3) Educational Policy, Organization, & Leadership (EPOL).
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining content for the School of Education's digital presences, particularly the School's primary website (ed.unc.edu), an intranet website, numerous auxiliary websites maintained for specialized audiences, and a digital signage platform. This position will perform content updates for School of Education sites and fulfil requests from School community members for additional website updates, adhering to web governance policies, brand guidelines, writing style guide, and digital accessibility policy.
This position will also lead web governance efforts, working with a variety of stakeholders within the School to perform periodic reviews of content to ensure clarity and accuracy. Additionally, this position will manage the School's Google Analytics account, creating periodic reports to help guide the School's website strategy and efforts. This position will also help to manage ongoing work with external vendors to deliver the highest quality digital products.
All current School-owned websites are built using WordPress Sites. This position also creates written and visual digital assets, working collaboratively as part of the Communications and Marketing Team and with stakeholders across the School. This position will work within the School's brand and identity guidelines in the development of content requests.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to assess and synthesize data and information, identify opportunities, and draw sound conclusions that guide and/or support digital communications and marketing efforts.
They should have:
Moderate to high level of proficiency in WordPress management and site creation
Experience with Google Analytics, RiseVision or comparable digital signage management platform, Office 365, and Adobe Creative Cloud
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working in a higher education communications and marketing role
