As part of the University of Oklahoma's Marketing and Communications Division, the Communications Specialist supports all communications efforts, serving as a staff writer tasked with crafting messages for internal and external audiences and managing communications projects for the division. In addition, the Communications Specialist provides assistance with university marketing, media relations, events, and digital communications.

  • Helps develop and implement internal and external communications such as newsletters, news releases, university announcements, and marketing publications.

  • Writes, edits, and proofs brochures, newsletters, ads, proposals, presentations, whitepapers, and other publications while maintaining consistency with university brand standards.

  • As needed, supports OU colleges, departments, programs, and administrative offices with the creation and editing of content, including news releases, talking points, feature stories, etc.

  • Serves as content curator and assistant editor of internal news publication.

  • Develops and maintains a faculty expert list for media relations purposes.

  • Assists with the planning and implementation of earned media campaigns.

  • Measures and tracks media coverage and provide media reports as required, along with updating media contact and request lists.

  • Reviews publications submitted by colleges and departments to ensure all publications are in keeping with OU guideline and style requirements.

  • Performs research, analyze data, and assist with development and implementation of strategic initiatives for the Division's communications, marketing, and media efforts.

  • Serves as a member of the OU Norman and OUHSC emergency and crisis communications teams.

  • Assists with content creation and online posting to OU website and social media channels.

  • Monitors official University email accounts and provide timely responses.

  • Oversees interns, PEAK workers, and/or Graduate Assistants.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 36 experience in a combination of public relations, journalism, marketing, media relations

Skills:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including working with a diverse group of faculty, staff and members of the public

  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines with exceptional attention to detail skills

  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and make procedural decisions and judgments

Certifications:

  • Valid Drivers License required for regular event support.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Standard administrative office environment and exposure, including frequent keyboarding. This position requires mobility, such as being able to move between floors or between buildings on campus. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Must be able to communicate effectively.

VIEW JOBS 1/19/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-04-18T00:00 Technology Specialist - School of Meteorology Technology Specialists play a critical role on the OU IT Mission Support team with responsibility for delivering IT services, managing administrative/academic relationships, and establishing technology support and strategies for service areas. Specialists support and meet technology needs that align with the culture, goals, and needs of the service area and must have broad technology experience. These important positions will coordinate and manage the process of service delivery, technology integration, and collaborative solution building. This particular role will be embedded in the School of Meteorology, where an acute understanding, awareness, and passion for the sciences will be key to success. Service Delivery: * Perform hands-on troubleshooting and technical support for computers (Windows, Linux, and Mac), peripherals, servers, storage solutions, and classroom equipment used by faculty, staff and students * Facilitate the delivery of OU IT's core services, including monitoring issues and updating tickets on behalf of customers in order to ensure that required service levels are being met. * Assist in solving problems with various meteorological software tools and programs * Administer databases and archives of historical weather and climate data, as well as feeds of real time meteorological data (NOAAPORT) * Help administer and support clusters that are used for various weather and data retrieval simulations * In collaboration with appropriate IT teams, help maintain SOM computers labs, update software packages, and provide web and online development * Provide consultation to customers for new technology procurement including those specific to atmospheric science applications * Coordinate campus technology integration into existing customer workflows and coordinate training for end-users * Oversee and set up account access, permissions, and resource management * Serve as a primary point of contact with IT teams in order to affect customer resolution and satisfaction * Review and maintain applicable content in the ticketing system – status, progress, and resolution; escalate issues and concerns as appropriate within OU IT * Maintain external and internal knowledge base content as you establish and document appropriate processes and procedures for customer support. Relationship Management: * Speak with researchers about meteorological software, processes and theory in order to best support their initiatives * Work within a federated structure strengthening our Weather Enterprise * Manage customer expectations on each issue and project * Provide an appropriate level of business analysis and determine solutions that support, enhance and improve the business * Engage IT resources in Services, Projects, Infrastructure, Applications, and the Business Office as necessary to meet customer needs * Proactively monitor customer satisfaction * Exhibit a positive demeanor and represent OU IT with professionalism Strategic Engagement: * Manage and coordinate technical projects and technology related events * Collaborate with other specialists across campus for appropriate solutions * Research and maintain an awareness of customer business drivers and appropriate technology resources and solutions * Promote two-way communication between the customer and IT and within IT teams * Engage in proactive support by anticipating issues and developing appropriate solutions * Exhibit behaviors that foster a culture of innovation Required Education: Bachelor's Degree OR an equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND: * 18-36 months experience with computer/hardware/software.
