Department:

Engineering | Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE):

Increases department visibility by developing and executing all aspects of the MAE marketing, promotion and communication plans. In coordination with other MAE faculty and staff, develops and implements strategic communications and marketing to enhance local, national, and international visibility of the department.

Develops new publications, coordinates and produces all department publications including articles, reports, pamphlets, newsletters, web content, and promotional materials.

Conducts interviews, writes articles, and publishes stories of MAE students, faculty, and alumni. Works with communications committee to select material for promotion.

Identifies and solicits publication and web content. Works on publication layouts. Establishes design standards for all materials produced by the department in compliance with university branding rules and guidelines.

Designs displays, signage and exhibits for department building as well as promotional events. Works with printing vendors to achieve desired quality while obtaining competitive pricing.

Writes, updates and maintains content on department website.

Provides marketing, promotion, and communication support for conferences, seminars and departmental events.

Assists MAE Alumni Relations Committee. Submits nominations for the College of Engineering (CoE) Alumni Awards.

Manages MAE communications support staff. Serves as liaison with the CoE and university communications and Advancement as needed. Ensures that communications projects are completed as planned.

Ensures all college and university guidelines and requirements are followed.

Additional Information:

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in writing, editing, publicity, marketing, publication production and disseminating news releases.

Additional Education Desired:

Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Strong desire for 2-3 years experience in an editorial capacity, including knowledge of writing, editing, graphic arts, design, printing and the various methods of publishing strongly desired; experience with electronic communication, personal computers, fundraising, and marketing; experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver). experience with engineering faculty, students, and alumni (mechanical, aerospace, and/or nuclear preferred).

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $49,800 to $66,400
