Background:

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is the premier multilateral development institution within Latin America and the Caribbean region. At the IDB, the region is divided into four country departments responsible for the promotion and development of country strategies, the programming of operations, and the management of resources and of their respective portfolio of operations. The Caribbean Country Department (CCB) has a regional office based in Jamaica, country offices located in Barbados, Guyana, Suriname, The Bahamas, and Trinidad and Tobago, and an office located at the Headquarters of the IDB Group in Washington DC.

Therefore, we are seeking a highly motivated individual, with demonstrated communication, leadership, research, and analytical credentials, to fill the position of Communications Specialist or Senior Associate in our office in Washington DC.

The most suitable candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for development and leading change, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be creative, driven, good at relationship building, and have strong analytical skills. Further, s/he must be a team player and a high energy

professional with digital competence. S/he should also have and an agile mindset with an interest in using real-time, iterative approaches to meet client needs, all with the aim of promoting innovative solutions to corporate and regional development challenges.

The candidate will report directly to the Regional Operations Advisor and must demonstrate a holistic understanding of the operations lifecycle with the IDB Group.

The team's mission:

CCB is responsible for the promotion and development of the IDB Group country strategies and programming in The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. The department supports the processing, negotiation, and administration of regional and country specific projects and programs; leading and maintaining the relations of the IDB Group with member countries; supporting the implementation of country-specific operations; promoting and coordinating the use of the funds administered by the Bank or under parallel financing agreements and monitoring the operation-related procurement activities of Bank borrowers and beneficiaries.

What you will do:

The selected candidate will coordinate and manage the dissemination of knowledge products for the department, including working with KIC on press releases, coordinating media interviews and articles, working with the video department to create original communications materials, writing speeches, op-eds, and managing all social media. The candidate is expected to perform the following activities:

  • Coordinate the planning, design, execution, and monitoring of the department's communication strategy with the main objective of receiving insights about change and sharing stories of operational impact.

  • Manage the department's client relations management system, monitor its usage and share analytics to support decision-making.

  • Conduct and coordinate communications and media activities to advance the department's agenda, the dissemination of studies, promotion of critical events and initiatives, and to raise awareness about issues facing the Caribbean region with IDB Group stakeholders, media, academia, civil society, and the general public in Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • Draft and edit press releases, video scripts, social media outputs and coordination, talking points, speeches, op-eds, and other materials that illustrate the scope, importance, results, and impact of the department's activities.

  • Manage the writing, editing, and translation of blogs and coordinate the dissemination of blog posts for the Caribbean DevTrends blog (including partnerships with blogs that publish in Spanish, French, and Portuguese relevant to spread).

  • Coordinate and oversee the monthly newsletter, The Next Wave, for Bank-wide and external dissemination.

  • Coordinate graphic design and videography support.

  • Coordinate the design and implementation of the Department's intranet portal in close collaboration with the Information Technology Department and the Vice Presidency for Countries (VPC).

  • Establish the department as a thought leader in LAC by improving outreach and dissemination using appropriate tools.

  • Organize and edit video podcasts based on knowledge developed by the department.

  • Coordinate and support the creation of short documentaries. Produce and/or coordinate TV/radio interviews, feature stories, and other traditional media and provide a dissemination plan.

  • Provide communications support for events at Headquarters and in the field when necessary.

What you will need:

Education: You hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, and/or related fields.

Experience: You have a minimum of three (3) or four (4) years of relevant writing and editing work experience, depending on the grade, related to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Demonstrated knowledge of a range of on-line and offline digital communication tools to create and disseminate business content is required. Hands-on experience using digital technologies and content management systems with demonstrated knowledge in digital audience analytics, collection of business and system requirements, and reporting is desired.

Languages: You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Oral and written proficiency in a second Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is also required.

Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.

The Center on Education Data and Policy (EDP) is seeking a communications specialist to help translate and disseminate rigorous education research to changemakers ranging from Congressional staff and national reporters to school, college, and district leaders. Reporting to the senior manager for communications and outreach in EDP, the communications specialist will work with EDP researchers and with Urban's larger communications team to develop content and execute strategic communications plans. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with an understanding of education policy and at least a few years of experience in communications, journalism, policy, or a related field. Responsibilities: * Write compelling content - outreach emails, newsletters, media pitches, research summaries, fact sheets - that distills complex research for non-expert stakeholders * Edit blog posts, executive summaries, and other written products for content and clarity * Collaboratively develop and execute communications strategies for EDP projects and the center's broader priorities * Conduct background research to help prepare researchers for media interviews or key stakeholder meetings * Monitor web analytics and track examples of impact * Help researchers develop content and guest lists for panel discussions, roundtables, briefings, or other events * Liaise between researchers and the communications team, coordinating timing and resources for product launches and outreach campaigns * Track engagements with reporters and policy stakeholders and maintain lists of key contacts * Coordinate the EDP product pipeline in close coordination with researchers and operations staff What you'll bring: The successful candidate will: * Have 3-6 years of professional experience in a role involving a significant amount of writing. Time spent earning a degree (bachelor's, associate's, or certificate) can take the place of some professional experience, but candidates should still have at least a few years of relevant work experience * Exhibit exceptional writing skills, including the ability to tailor content to specific audiences * Have experience in or knowledge of education policy * Demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret quantitative research * Be self-directed, organized, and flexible * Knowledge of Salesforce, Cision, or Google Analytics a plus * Please include a cover letter and at least one writing sample in your application.
