Central City Concern is an innovative nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to single adults and families in the Portland metro area who are impacted by homelessness, poverty and addictions. The Communications Specialist is a member of the Public Affairs (PA) team and will work closely with leaders across CCC, community partners, and subject matter experts. The primary goal of this position is to develop, create, and publish content for all CCC communications channels. Content topics include, but are not limited to, healthcare, housing, employment services, public policy, recovery, and racial equity. This tech-savvy person will be the eyes and ears of the PA team as they collaborate on communications projects with teams across CCC's vast portfolio. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and create written content such as emails, brochures, blogs, newsletters, presentations, and white papers about all CCC programs and initiatives.

  • Using graphic design software, design brochures, fact sheets, flyers, signage, PowerPoint presentations, and invitations. Work with contract graphic designers on large design projects.

  • Collaborate with CCC Human Resources to communicate various topics to CCC employees, such as Diversity/Equity/Inclusion (DEI), anti-racism, Total Rewards, Benefits, and messaging for our union-represented employees.

  • Manage the CCC employee intranet site on SharePoint and work closely with IT and program partners on their intranet content.

  • Collaborate with PA colleagues on audiovisual production of external marketing content for the CCC website, social media channels, and media outlets. Assist with in-house photography and video production shoots.

  • Maintain and organize digital assets, including images, video, and other forms of media, with CCC's Digital Asset Management system.

  • Review and edit organizational and program communications to ensure consistency, readability, and alignment with company style.

  • Apply standard project management techniques to projects, including developing comprehensive communications plans, creating project schedules, meeting deadlines, communicating with team members, and resolving issues to keep projects on course.

  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security. Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements under community partners' and outside providers' patient confidentiality agreements, including privacy and security requirements for EMR access. This includes immediately reporting to the CCC Compliance Department any breach of protected health information or personal identification information of any person receiving CCC services by CCC or an outside provider, as well as to your supervisor or their designee.

  • Attend all mandatory CCC training promptly.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and a passion for clear and effective communications.

  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to articulate ideas, problem solve, and bring a team to resolution.

  • Strong time management, problem-solving, issue resolution, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to apply change management techniques to topics communicated to CCC staff.

  • Ability to use trauma-informed messaging when addressing people in recovery and underserved communities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, and WordPress.

  • Proficient in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.

  • Experience with photography and videography is preferred.

  • Experience with email marketing software (Campaign Monitor or Mail Chimp) and social media scheduling tools (Sprout Social or Hoot Suite) is a plus.

  • Ability to apply cultural sensitivity and consider impacts of oppression, structural racism, and individual bias when communicating to internal and external audiences.

  • Ability to work in an environment where people may be hostile, abusive, or experiencing personal crises.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, public affairs, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.

  • Minimum three years of professional communications experience, including writing and content creation for internal and external audiences across all digital platforms.

  • Minimum three years of project management experience, including the ability to prioritize, organize, and plan for effective development and delivery of communications projects.

  • Minimum three years of experience in graphic design or audiovisual production for collateral marketing materials.

  • Experience with trauma-informed communications.

  • Experience with AP standards and demonstrated skill in copy editing.

  • Experience developing content for staff intranet sites (SharePoint preferred).

  • Experience in a medical or health services environment is preferred.

  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull, climb stairs, and lift heavy objects.
