The Institute of Agriculture in Knoxville TN, comprisedof The Herbert College of Agriculture, AgResearch, and Extension, is seeking anenergetic, competent, and self-motivated employee to provide support to the

Department of Plant Sciences in the areas of marketing and communications. This position will report to the DepartmentHead along with collaborations for the 42 faculty members to design, write, andimplement webpage content to showcase their research/teaching/outreach success.

This person will develop materials tofacilitate recruitment including short films, videos, pamphlets and fact sheetswhile attending recruitment events representing the department. This position will collect and consolidatefacts for social media outlets to assure the Department of Plant Sciences isbroadly visualized and advertised in all social media mediums. This person will collect and compileinformation for newsletters, event planning and organization of field days, UTGardens activities, and other potential revenue generating entrepreneurialactivities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Marketing & Communications,Business Management or related field with at least 2 years of experience.

Knowledge of webpage codes and HTML functions.

Excellent written and verbal skills.

Skilled knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter andother social media formats.

Neal Stewart, Jr. at the University of Tennessee in the Department ofPlant Sciences (https://ag.tennessee.edu/racheff/).The successful applicant will be a plant physiologist or ecophysiologist withinterests/experience in phenotyping, drones, and field-level experiments. Our4-y project focuses on nitrogen use and biomass production of a switchgrasscommon garden study as part of a genome-wide association study. It will involvehigh-resolution remote sensing, big-data machine learning approaches to field-basedremote sensing, advanced image processing and analysis for traits such asbiomass projections, nitrogen use efficiency, and disease resistance. The phenotyping platform is a UAV with multispectraland LiDAR sensors. The successfulapplicant will collaborate with scientists and staff within and outside of theuniversity. The postdoc will give presentations, write reports and writemanuscripts intended for publication. Requirements: * Applicants should have a PhD prior to joiningthe lab in plant biology or a related field. * Preference will be given to applicants withexperience UAV-based imaging, photogrammetry, processing and analysis ofmultispectral images and point cloud data, good statistics skills, experienceswith large data sets * Preference will also be given to applicants withstrong publication records, considerable drive and motivation, and excellentproblem-solving skills. * Further, the position requires excellent writtenand oral communication skills and the ability to work in a highly interdisciplinaryteam-based environment. * The postdoc will work in a team environment andwill help train more junior scientists. The initial appointment is for twoyears with a mandatory 6-month probationary period, with a possibility ofrenewal for up to four years based on performance and continued grant funding. Allpostdocs in the lab are expected to generate at least one first-author paperper year from their UT work. Salary is based on experience andqualifications according to UT policy. In addition, UT provides anexcellent fringe benefits package. Knoxville is located near thebeautiful Smoky Mountains, has a low cost of living, and a moderate climate.
