Communications Specialist

• Produce a variety of health communication and social marketing materials including, video, audio, and computer-aided Internet-based educational materials; social media messages; contests, challenges, and competitions designed for public participation; radio, television, and print public service announcements; brochures; posters; point-of-purchase materials; and/or pamphlets.

• Materials and messages must be culturally competent, meet health literacy and plain language guidelines, as well as other standards such as Section 508. Develop materials for use on digital, new, or nontraditional channels, including social media. Additionally, implement and manage social media channels, as requested. Channels should be managed with current CDC policies.

• Provide video production capabilities, including short reels, animations, video infographics, and other related materials for use on websites, social media, and external presentations.

• Keep abreast of and be able to advise CDC programs about new health communication, broadcast, web, social media, mobile, and educational technologies.

• Develop materials in formats not specified above for use in non-traditional channels.

• Provide graphic design and related services needed for completing the health communication products. This may include the design and production of kits of materials, packaging public releases, illustrations, drawings, photographs, digital images, infographics, and other similar visual materials. Emphasis must be on economy and quality with attention to any current restrictions on Government printing and audiovisual production. The requests for graphic support may include computer-generated graphics, or photographs, original hand drawings, impressions, etc. CDC graphic standards must be applied to all materials.

• Organize and manage shared drive folders, Microsoft Teams folders, and/or SharePoint sites to include design and maintenance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field which requires an understanding of written communication and 5-7 years of experience in a similar communications role.

• General knowledge of the principles and practices of public health, public health agencies, and their services is a plus.

• 2-4 years experience graphic design, and developing video, audio, and computer-aided Internet-based educational materials; social media messages and materials for use on digital, new, or nontraditional channels, including social media.
