Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. (HabiJax) is currently seeking a Communications Specialist who has a heart for helping families in need of a hand up to build a place they can call home. HabiJax is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a global nonprofit housing organization putting God's love into action by bringing people together to empower families to build better futures through homeownership.

Position Summary

The Communications Specialist coordinates and supports processes for HabiJax marketing, communications, community relations, data gathering and management, and data tracking and reporting efforts. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Faith Relations, and will also receive direction and leadership from the Director of Strategic Planning and Initiatives. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, ability to use professional values and ethics to effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds, strong time management and organizational skills, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and a commitment to HabiJax's mission, vision, and values.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Director of Marketing, Communications & Faith Relations with planning, marketing, and managing HabiJax special events.

  • Regularly seek news and photos from all departments to develop content for internal communications website and message boards and for HabiJax newsletters, promotional materials, social media, and website.

  • Represent HabiJax at job sites, community events, and corporate events with team members from other departments.

  • Photograph and video record events, volunteer groups, and other groups that serve on HabiJax sites.

  • Write and post bios and stories for HabiJax staff, board members, homebuyers, and Hicks Prep Club students.

  • Identify and facilitate opportunities to increase the visibility of HabiJax through participation in community, government, and advocacy events.

  • Assist with updating and maintaining promotional materials, presentations, training materials, and resources for HabiJax programs.

  • Ensure appropriate signage and promotional materials at programs and events.

  • Work with Director of Strategic Planning and Initiatives to gather, track, and report on HabiJax Strategic Goals and Action Steps data and progress.

  • Research and report on historical homebuyer data to evaluate cost savings, tax benefit to city, home value appreciation, etc.

  • Conduct homeowner surveys to evaluate improvement of family life: health, safety & emotional well-being, education, financial stability.

  • Perform research activities to provide analysis to support the public awareness and policy objectives of the organization.

  • Coordinate the development of the HabiJax Intranet site with the HabiJax Communications Task Force.

  • Assist Director of Strategic Planning and Initiatives with special projects and reporting as required.

  • Assist with impact reports and customized presentations for advocacy, homeownership, sponsorships, strategic partnerships, real estate development & acquisition.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with department and HabiJax staff.

  • Be aware of and advocate for the mission, vision, and values of HabiJax and Habitat for Humanity.

  • Perform additional duties as required and directed.

Education, Experience, and Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience in marketing, communications, or community relations.

  • 3+ years experience in data gathering, tracking, and reporting.

  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and presentation skills. Willingness to attend public functions and networking events.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to comfortably interact with people of diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • High ethical standards, good judgment, and demonstrated diplomacy and tact.

  • Achievement and goal oriented with excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate external events and meetings.

  • Attention to detail, persistence in follow up, and a strong sense of urgency.

  • Willingness to promote the principles and views of Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville.

  • Computer proficiency to include the use of Microsoft Office and other software applications.

  • Experience with manipulating data and an understanding of database software. Proficiency in Raiser's Edge preferred.

  • Experience working with project management software. Proficiency in Asana preferred.

  • Experience working with web design software. Proficiency in WordPress preferred.

  • Experience with graphic design and video production.

  • Valid Driver's License insurable by HabiJax's insurance carrier.

  • Able to successfully pass a criminal background check, driving record check, and drug screening.

Work Location and Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and may require local travel to HabiJax work locations, and various meeting and event sites. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. This position requires extended periods of sitting and standing and may require working in various weather conditions. The employee in this position must also occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work

The standard work hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Some work may be completed remotely with supervisor approval.

Pay Rate

The starting pay rate for this position is $19.00 to $21.00 per hour based on experience.
