Communications Specialist

Garver is seeking a Communications Specialist to support our client communications and public involvement services in the Transportation Business Line. This fast-paced position will assist with various communication tasks to support our clients and provide project-related information to the public.
The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, excel in written and verbal communication skills, care about documentation processes and checklists, and possess an eye for quality control. Tasks will include copywriting, editing and proofreading, data entry and documentation, public event planning, and graphic design and layout support. The ideal candidate must be able to work as a self-starter, handle multiple tasks at one time, and work within tight deadlines. This role requires frequent interactions with people through in-person meetings, phone calls, virtual meetings, and other direct communication methods.
Primary responsibilities:
Prepare public outreach materials for public involvement meetings, such as notification to stakeholders, news organizations, and the public using newspapers, radio, social media, and direct mail
Provide event-planning services for public meetings, including scheduling events, securing venue locations, and ensuring proper setup
Attend and host in-person and virtual public meetings
Keep complete communication records and ensure documentation processes are completed
Incorporate feedback and edits from multiple team members
Write and update various types of reports
Create materials in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite applications
Develop pages and update content for project websites
Manage quality control and assurance processes
Prepare online documents to meet accessibility requirements
Required Skills:
Detail oriented and organized
Strong writing, editing, and grammar skills
Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications, specifically PowerPoint and Word
Enjoys working and interacting with people
Preferred Skills:
Previous experience in developing documents to meet accessibility standards or Section 508 Compliance
Previous experience with event planning
Intermediate graphic design skills with experience in Adobe Creative Suite
