Title Communications Specialist, Content Department AHS Office of Public Affairs (6805) Location University of Arizona Health Sciences Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Communications Director, and as a member of the Office of Public Affairs at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, the Communications and Content Specialist will be responsible for creating, writing and producing compelling, engaging content that builds visibility for the University of Arizona Health Sciences, the state's academic health center.
Through the Communications and Content Specialist's efforts, the Office of Public Affairs is seeking to raise the UA Health Sciences' local, regional and national profile with a number of key audiences, including prospective and current students, prospective faculty, alumni, donors, government officials and peer institutions. The successful candidate must have strong newswriting and creative writing skills, a team-based approach to collaborate with others and the ability to quickly produce engaging content using both traditional and non-traditional frameworks in a fast-paced office that works with five UA health colleges and multiple centers, institutes and programs, as well as Banner Health, the UA's chief clinical partner.

Duties & Responsibilities
Create copy that aligns with the tone and voice of the University of Arizona brand.
Identify, gather and produce content for a number of communications efforts, including news releases, web copy, blogs, social media, email marketing, digital advertising, video and more.
Distribute content on a variety of platforms, including websites, social media channels, UA Health Sciences blog, MailChimp.
Assist with tracking reach and impact of earned and owned media for UA Health Sciences.
Identify, write and distribute news releases and make media pitches to national, state and local media.
Coordinate interviews, escort TV crews and reporters, and schedule filming locations, if needed.
Help identify, write/create, monitor and coordinate photography, artwork, layout and preparation of internal and external publications and other media, as needed.
Work with the Communications Director and UAHS BioCommunications to create, produce and edit video content for various purposes across digital platforms.
Build strong relationships with faculty and staff members to source story ideas and address communication needs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Basic skills in Adobe Creative Suite, MailChimp and Drupal.
Strong organization skills and significant attention to detail.
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with successful results and on-time delivery.
Proven ease at building relationships with constituents to develop story ideas for publication across all platforms.
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, creative writing or related field and two or more years' content development and communications experience; or six years of progressively responsible content development/communications experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Experience in managing and upholding content standards; knowledge of Associated Press style.
Experience using social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat.
Basic skills in Meltwater.
Experience within an academic or health sciences setting.
Experience working with graphic designers, digital photographers, video and multimedia producers.
Proven understanding of audience segmentation and the ability to identify different communication and outreach strategies to engage diverse groups and audiences.
Self-motivated, willing and able to take initiative.
Ability to work both independently and with a team, resolving issues with a positive outcome.
High level of integrity, ethics and professionalism.
Strong attention to detail in writing and copyediting news releases and web media, with demonstrated ability to grasp sophisticated scientific research and present it in compelling, easily understood stories.
Demonstrated success in generating stories with placement in conventional and web-based media outlets.
