Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.

  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include resolving conflicts, coping with moderate stress levels, along with the requirements to complete tasks within set time constraints and frequently changing priorities.

  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Education or a related field AND three (3) years of related work experience in the development of comprehensive and creative communication; OR seven (7) years of related work experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that verify mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six (6) months of experience.

  • Experience working in Higher Education

  • Demonstrated knowledge of writing in AP style, media relations, content development and copy editing.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Evidence of effective client relationship skills and demonstrated ability to self-direct and take initiatives.

  • Experience in managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines, and working collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.

  • Experience with content management systems (Drupal, WordPress), SEO and CRMs (Salesforce).

  • Experience with graphic design and layout using Adobe Creative Cloud tools.

Essential Duties

  • Plans, develops, and produces creative, high-quality and cost-effective communications for school audiences (e.g., faculty, staff, students, donors, prospective students, and the general public) using multiple media and tools (e.g., print, social media, events, press releases, advertisements, Web, displays, and merchandise).

  • Collaborates, consults with, and participates in new-idea generation, brainstorming, and recommending creative ways to accomplish marketing and communication goals

  • Serves as the writer and editor for alumni and internal school newsletters, brochures, web content, press releases and annual reports and ASU News articles.

  • Participates in strategic communications planning for school projects and initiatives.

  • Supports the communication needs of the school's departments and programs; especially as they relate to development, recruitment and student services activities (including consulting and/or production of communication tools).

  • Implements university guidelines for the use of the school's web site, advertising, alumni and staff print communications.

  • Oversees content for the SHPRS website, identifying information needs and updates, using analytics to drive and develop new content and ensuring timely posting of news and events.

  • Works with internal and external vendors and suppliers to coordinate media placement, printing of various types of materials, and direct the development, content, and design of communication for the school's website and programs.

  • Posts to social media accounts, analyzes social media, email and web content performance and determines how to improve effectiveness.

  • Engages with college leadership, marketing team members, faculty and staff to source content

  • Serves as editor of SHPRS blog

  • Works with vendors and graphic designers to produce high-quality designed content and promo items.

  • Handles photography and videography.

  • Manages marketing budget.

  • Assists with events as requested.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$50,000 - $63,000 per year; DOE
