The Communications and Marketing Manager supports and promotes the vision, mission and values of the Department of Medicine (DOM) by managing the overall marketing and communication programs. He/she is responsible for the evaluation, development, and implementation of the marketing and communication strategic plans to build external and internal awareness of the DOM. He/she will work closely and collaboratively with the Chair, senior leadership, faculty and staff throughout the department, and the communication teams of BMC and BUSM. He/she will deliver programs to enhance the image of DOM while ensuring coordination with BMC and BUSM's communication and marketing plans.
Manage internal and external communications for the department, in coordination with the communication and marketing offices of BUMG, BMC, and BUSM.
Promote effective, streamlined, and coordinated communication.
Support the efforts of the DOM by offering input on communication strategies that enhance visibility, reputation and impact of the department of medicine and its members. Construct and oversee the creation of all creative content and its distribution through print, digital, video and social media outlets. Projects include but are not limited to newsletters, annual, reports, event promotion materials, brochures, flyers, etc.
Working collaboratively with BU School of Medicine and BMC Development, develop proposals, program plans, marketing materials, acknowledgment letters and other written materials to assist the Department of Medicine (DOM) in meeting fundraising goals.
Serve as marketing manager for the DOM.
Develop in close collaboration with the Chair and senior leadership the strategic goals of the communication and marketing plans for the department.
Implement all aspects of the department's marketing strategy (marketing plan, advertising, media, clinical marketing, email/direct marketing, internal marketing, etc.) to advance the strategic goals of the department.
Manage qualitative and quantitative tracking systems to track and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing strategies. Incorporate data into future planning.
Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of market and competitor dynamics as well as internal/organizational dynamics to best serve the objectives of the department and adjust plans accordingly.
Maintain, update, monitor analytics and drive web strategy for the DOM website.
Coordinate and collaborate with BMC/BU marketing departments to optimize online marketing opportunities for DOM and specific departments/services as well as Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Manage department's social media and digital media presence and projects.
Manage department's digital media and video projects including project management of outside video production vendors.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, or related field.
Three+ years of marketing, marketing communications, advertising and/or health care marketing experience.
Physicians marketing experience is preferred.
Experience in an academic medical center is preferred.
Experience working with advertising and media agencies is preferred.
Strategic thinker with exceptional project management, creative, analytical and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a problem solver with sound judgment.
Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Ability to set clear goals and priorities and handle a multitude of tasks.
Strong written and verbal skill including the ability to write, edit and produce materials of the highest quality.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
