The Marketing and Communication Division is searching for a Communications Manager. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. In this role, you will product dynamic storytelling through writing, multimedia and developing visuals.

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Write institutional feature stories and produce multimedia content;

  • Conduct background research for storytelling and regularly review peer institution websites to identify trends;

  • Collaborate with other members of the content team to curate homepage and news website;

  • Develop visuals as needed for dynamic storytelling; and

  • Craft and promote research news through proper channels and platforms.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;

  • A high level of integrity, credibility, respect and team collaboration; and

  • Research skills and business insight with a fluency in topical news and culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, business, or other relevant field; Master's highly desired.

  • Minimum of five years as a leader in multi-channel content creation.

  • Ability to work after hours and on weekends when appropriate.

This position, which is split between CMU's Marketing & Communications division and CMU's leadership team, requires a social media expert with visual storytelling abilities. In this newly created role, you will join a growing and vibrant social media team which has increased the Carnegie Mellon's social media followership by 70 percent in the past two years. Reporting to the Associate Director, Social Media, you will focus on channel development and support, content creation and issues management, in addition to growing university leadership social media accounts. Core responsibilities will include: * Develop story ideas and generate photographs, video, audio segments and interactive graphics for leadership and central social media channels; * Create and facilitate short-form video content production, both independently and in collaboration with Marketing and Communication's in-house video producers and social media team; * Cultivate brand building and reputational opportunities to reach targeted audiences on social media via new approaches and techniques; * Amplify communications for other CMU departments, including CMU's seven colleges/schools and other divisions across campus; * Produce and publish livestreams, both independently and in collaboration with media production, for a variety of university-wide events; * Monitor social media mentions and other activity; identify mentions that need responses; read news reports and identify stories suitable for sharing on social media; identify influencers and strategies for working with them; * Review new platforms and tools and make recommendations to enhance audience engagement; * Contribute to the planning process and approach to social media strategy and content development; * Create and produce multimedia projects to be used on social channels, especially those that align with the strategic goals of the university; and * Coordinate with leadership team to ensure social media coverage of non-local events.
