About Our Job Denver International Airport is the 20th-busiest airport in the world and the 5th-busiest airport in the United States, serving 61.4 million passengers last year and generating more than $26 billion for the region annually.
DEN is the largest and newest commercial airport in the United States and consists of 15 million square feet of built environment.
Denver International Airport is hiring two Communications Managers who will work with various airport departments, divisions and key stakeholders to develop and implement communication strategies and tactics that support the airports goals and objectives.
One position will support special projects at DEN such as the Great Hall terminal renovation and will serve as the airport's dedicated communications manager for such projects.
This position will be responsible for developing well-rounded strategic communication plans, developing key messages, coordinating with the project teams as well as internal stakeholders, business partners and serving as the primary spokesperson for special projects.
The position will be integrated as part of the project teams and will be required to coordinate with contractors and consultants working on each project.
The position must be available during emergencies and to work occasional nights and weekends.
Knowledge and experience with communications during a construction project is ideal.
The second position will serve as a Communications Manager/Public Information Officer for a wide array of DEN divisions and departments and will serve as one of the primary spokespeople for the airport.
Specifically, the position will develop strategic communication plans, develop key messaging, develop content for and maintain the airport's social media channels and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
This position will also handle day-to-day media relations including researching issues, interviewing and preparing subject matter experts as well as crisis communications.
This position will be on a rotating on-call schedule, during which they must be available 24/7.
They also must be available during emergencies and to work occasional nights and weekends.
Duties for both Positions Develop communication plans and strategies for enhanced PR with target audiences and distribute that information to internal and external audiences through a variety of communication channels.
Develop appropriate communication pieces (press releases, key messages, reports, presentations, fact sheets, etc.), digital content, videos and social media content Acts as a spokesperson for the airport; prepares and responds to media inquiries and interview requests, pitches stories to media and prepares subject matter experts for media interviews Cultivate and manage relationships with the key members of the media including but not limited to reporters, editors, producers, bloggers, and other influencers.
Identify and foster relationships with new media partners to expand coverage.
Provide crisis management and/or communications during emergency situations, acting as the lead information source to the public and media and work with stakeholders such as police, federal agencies and airlines to coordinate response and messaging Develop and implement communication strategies for social media and other digital assets and social media channels; respond and post new content to social media on a daily basis; develop a social media calendar; and create weekly and monthly comment and metric reports and analyze the reports to enhance the social media strategy Work with our customer service team to assist with customer responses by providing ongoing key messaging, responding to urgent requests and developing a knowledgebase for common responses Conduct research to identify trends, demographics, and issues in communications, marketing and/or public relations; analyzes data in order to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and/or public relations strategies, and recommends ways to improve or adjust strategies to management Develop, coordinate and implement special events and news conference About You Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or other related field (please note, this is not a marketing position) At least three years of experience in communications with proven experience with media relations, communications plans and crisis communications.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with experience in writing a variety of communication pieces Proven track record of generating earned media Experience dealing with local, state, national and international media Experience providing crisis communications to an organization or large audience Experience developing communications plans and programs to support corporate strategies and goals Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments Experience developing website content and organizing content Experience managing a company's social media channels including monitoring, posting and reporting Dynamic and detailed-oriented Self-directed with problem solving skills Proficient using Microsoft Office Ideal Candidate: Self-starter Ability to learn quickly and be resourceful Strong research skills Aviation experience Strong organizational skills Experience developing dynamic presentations Previously worked in an PR/communications role within a large corporate or municipal organization that is as complex and dynamic as Denver International Airport Solid network of media, public sector and aviation industry contacts We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications:
Three (3) years of full performance, professional level experience performing marketing and/or public relations functions including research and analysis, developing public announcements and publications, and developing marketing and/or public relations strategies.
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
Requires a Colorado Class "R" Driver's License by the completion of probation.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment.
By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation.
If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
