Communications Manager Heavenly

The Communications Manager will support the Director of Communications (Tahoe) to protect and promote the Heavenly and Vail Resorts' brands while driving high-funnel earned media placements for Heavenly.

This role is a vital member to Company's Communications team and the resort's Communications and Marketing teams, serving as a key influencer on the Team Tahoe aggregate of resorts. The Communications Manager will focus on driving business for Heavenly and all 35 lines of the resort's ancillary businesses, as well as Company-wide initiatives and multi-resort communications efforts. This position will execute day-to-day efforts including but not limited to: proactive pitching, fulfillment of media requests, media list maintenance, budget management, coverage tracking, media hosting, internal and external resort and COO communications, crisis communications and local issues management.

The Communications Manager position requires the ability to establish and maintain strong internal and external relationships, knowledge of media and industry trends, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, critical thinking and decision-making skills, and the ability to multi-task and drive results in a fast-paced work environment.

Other Roles & Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Serve as key day-to-day communications representative for Heavenly and Communications business partner to resort COO

  • Work with Director and other Communications team members to handle press inquiries, pitch strategic stories, host visiting press, develop key messages, prepare spokespeople for interviews and serve as a liaison between the resort and press

  • Collaborate with Heavenly and other Tahoe marketing team members on media opportunities

  • Working with the Director, develop a strategic communications plan that supports Heavenly and the Tahoe region's business objectives

  • Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with media

  • Act as resort spokesperson for interviews in print publications, television and radio

  • Develop media tools such as press releases, fact sheets, talking points and media kits

  • Build and manage budget for Heavenly with input from Director

  • Organize logistics for all media visits including creating an itinerary that showcases Heavenly and delivers on our key brand messages

  • Manages and tracks PR results for Heavenly through reporting metrics that display the value of coverage

  • Support multi-resort and corporate initiatives, such as planning and executing in-market travel, media season pass program, etc.

  • Assist in crisis communication scenarios

  • Basic administrative duties

  • Maintain on-call availability, including weekends and holidays

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Journalism, Communications or Marketing

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a communications role, preferably in the ski industry or a related industry

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work with teams remotely

  • Ability to work autonomously and follow-through on expected duties in a timely fashion without heavy managerial support

  • Ability to build internal and external relationships

  • Firm understanding and knowledge of all social media outlets

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, WordPress, and DropBox or similar programs

  • Experience with basic video/photo editing programs desired

  • Intermediate to advanced skiing or snowboarding ability

The Group & Event Coordinator arranges and communicates all aspects of group (Wedding, leisure, corporate, family reunion, sports, etc.) business after the sales process has been completed. This position works with clients in detailing the needs of meeting spaces, events or trips including meeting space set up, audio visual requirements, catering needs, additional activities (including on mountain), group billing, & special requests. Support of Lakeland Village front desk operations is also required. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Act as point of contact for In-house groups * Support Weddings and Leisure Group Sales Manager with on-site coordination * Execution of resort's corporate groups, weddings, and intercompany meetings * Manage all aspects of group logistics including but not limited to: budgets, permits, site plans, timelines, AV, set up, tear down, lodging, catering & transportation * Communicate events across departments acting as a liaison as it relates to event. Work closely with multiple departments including: Housekeeping, Front Desk, Accounting & Mountain Operations * Collaborate with third party event production companies when necessary * Manage contract completion as it relates to the group/event * Act as liaison between Lakeland Village, Group Sales and clients * Develop relationships and trust with client to provide exceptional service * Day of event coordinator to ensure smooth event execution * Have the ability to upsell resort products to enhance guest experience * Communicate events resort wide * Adhere to policy & procedures consistent with corporate guidelines * Attend weekly Groups Meeting to review upcoming BEO's and Details * Preform various bookkeeping functions, initiate and process financial documents related to accounts receivable; ensures billing accuracy, collecting payment prior to event and conduct bill reviews with clients prior to processing final bill * Event planning to include floorplans, food & beverage details, timelines, and activities. * Maximize group sales revenue and all lines of business with strong product knowledge, servicing skills and client upselling techniques. * Collaborate with third party companies for successful execution on Lakeland Village property while adhering to company policies * Support of Lakeland Village front desk operations is also required. Qualifications * Associates degree in hotel/restaurant management, business or other appropriate field. * At least 2 years of relevant experience in hotel operations, sales, and/or event management. * Broad base of knowledge and skills in food service management, including menu planning, cooking/food preparation operations, dining room set up and service, wine service, ordering, staffing, pricing, and budgeting. * Excellent administrative and organizational skills. * Excellent financial planning and analysis skills. * Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of company personnel as well as clients and outside organizations. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook. * Knowledge of Salesforce and/or Delphi applications preferred.
