Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field from an accredited institution is required. (Must provide official transcripts at time of interview)

  • Minimum six (6) years of communications and marketing experience (including digital expertise) is required.

  • Minimum two (2) years managing communication programs in a professional services, non-for-profit and/or healthcare environment is required.

  • Minimum two (2) years experience successfully managing and leading others is required.

  • Duties may involve local travel; possession of a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle is required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent oral and writing skills, with the ability to adapt communications to different audiences and management levels

  • Demonstrated competence in project management with strong communications, design, conceptual, organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work with health system governing body, community organizations, the media, and various political entities

  • Keeps abreast of emerging health care trends and legislative changes, as well as any other factors which may impact CCHHS' positioning by participating in educational activities such as reading professional journals/articles and participating in seminars, webcasts and applicable committees

  • Ability to exhibit innovation, creativity, and strong technical aptitude

  • Ability to work cooperatively and efficiently with a variety of people throughout the Hospital system, including physicians, researchers, and administrators with respect for their expertise or field of interest

  • Ability to provide leadership and effective supervision for staff

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Ability to represent CCHHS with tact and diplomacy



When applying for employment with the Cook County Health & Hospitals System, preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States for not less than 6 months of continuous service

  • A copy of a valid State ID Card or Driver's License which identifies the holder of the ID as a Veteran, may also be attached to the application at time of filing.

If items are not attached, you will not be eligible for Veteran Preference

Key responsibilities: * Establish and communicate the external and internal communications narrative and message framework for the PeopleManagement businesses. Help drive external and internal communications consistency and alignment across various mediums and departments of the organization. * Develop and execute external and internal communications strategies, based on divisional brand strategy and external marketing and communications plans, in coordination with senior leadership. * Plan, create, edit and publish content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as the employee intranet, email communications, Yammer and senior executive presentations. * Provide communications support to division president and associated business town halls, leader briefings and other community events, helping leaders communicate with employees as business strategies evolve. * Develop and execute a media relations strategy with select trade media, including working with journalists, pitching stories, managing and staffing interviews, drafting op-eds, news releases and media related collateral including fact sheets, infographics, messaging materials and Q&As. * Collaborate with communications leader, legal, marketing, media and other departments on proactive and reactive media relations, corporate responsibility, community engagement, issues management and crisis communications. * Monitor media coverage. * Identify authentic opportunities to tell the PeopleManagement story, initiatives, priorities and actions. Deploy appropriate communications in coordination with senior leadership. * Measure and leverage communications metrics and measurement to enable continuous improvement and allocate resources where they are providing the greatest return on investment for the business. What you bring to the table: * Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field. Advanced degree a plus. * Five years of experience as a communications professional in a matrixed organization or public relations agency. * Demonstrated effectiveness in developing narratives, leadership communications, external and internal communications strategies and tactical executions. * Excellent stakeholder engagement and leadership management skills with a strong emphasis on coaching and influencing.
