Requirements:
  • 7-10 years of experience in PR and/or marketing communications. People management skills a plus.
  • Expert storyteller. Lives to write copy and develop engage content .Impeccable written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience with A/B testing copy to drive engagement.Clear understanding of SEO and optimization of content
  • Experience with PR and pitching to media
  • Solid understanding of media relations, content strategy, social media strategy, integrated campaigns.
  • Self starter, willing to roll up sleeve and pitch in where needed
  • Experience managing social media sites (Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Youtube, Yelp). Actively partakes in online social communities themselves.
  • Must thrive in face paced, startup environment. Real estate experience is a plus but not required
  • Strong customer empathy with a hyper focus on what resonates with target audience
  • Bachelors in marketing, communications or journalism.

Established by the Board of Governors of the CCC, CLP works with state leadership and policymakers to promote expansion and replication of successful projects and to identify and implement systemic policy changes that can better support effective practices toward student achievement. </p> <p>The CLP office is located at 678 13th Street, Suite 200, Oakland, CA 94612. CLP operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Foundation for California Community Colleges, the non-profit auxiliary for the California Community Colleges. </p><p>CLP is looking for a communications coordinator to draft and help produce and manage internal and external communications for CLP in all formats, including print publications, news posts on our website, social media posts and campaigns, program communications, event communications, photography, and more.</p><p><strong>Essential Job Results </strong><strong>and Duties/Responsibilities include:</strong><br></p><ul> <li> <strong>Writing short, compelling news posts and program content:</strong> Write about CLP’s work, upcoming events, people we serve, and people and organizations we collaborate with; help select and draft content for monthly newsletter; attend events and interview external stakeholders and CLP team members, as assigned, to gather information for news posts and program communications </li> <li> <strong>Managing and developing social media presence of CLP, and implementing CLP social media strategy:</strong> Plan and draft posts; interact with followers and colleague organizations; plan and coordinate social media chats and campaigns; draft and circulate monthly reports on CLP’s social media engagement </li> <li> <strong>Managing CLP communications calendar and production:</strong> Maintain editorial calendar; with project deadlines and scope in mind, work out task lists with achievable timelines; seek new vendors as needed and communicate with vendors about project requirements </li> <li> <strong>Helping build CLP communications operation:</strong> Help develop a style guide and apply stylistic standards; help ensure brand continuity; create and maintain media list; monitor media coverage of CLP and related topics </li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>Education, Skills and Experience</strong></p> <p>The following qualifications are required:</p> <ul> <li>At least two years of writing and editing experience in journalism or a nonprofit setting</li> <li>Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills; ability to digest technical or bureaucratic language and suggest alternative ways to convey the same content</li> <li>Excellent research and information management skills and attention to detail </li> <li>Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, creatively, and accurately </li> <li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to seek and respond to feedback </li> <li>Proficiency with major social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)</li> <li>Proficiency with Google Drive applications and with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint </li> <li>Knowledge of AP style and professional communications standards</li> <li>Dedication to racial and economic equity and Interest in education policy </li> <li>Bachelor’s degree </li> </ul> <p>The following qualifications are highly desirable:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in a public education environment (as a communications professional, educator, or journalist) </li> <li>Demonstrated skill in developing policy-oriented social media presence </li> <li>Experience in a deadline-driven environment or as a project manager </li> <li>Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin or Cantonese </li> </ul> <p></p> <p></p><p><strong>Physical Requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ability to work at a computer workstation for periods up to 4 hours at a time.</li> <li>Ability to speak on the telephone for a total of up to 3 hours per day.</li> <li>Ability to sit for up to 3 hours without breaks at meetings.</li> <li>Ability to walk and stand for up to 4 hours without breaks at program site visits and meetings.</li> <li>Ability to lift and move a minimum of 40 pounds</li> <li>Ability to travel occasionally, as described above</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><strong>Working Conditions and Travel</strong></p> <p>Occasional local or overnight travel by land or air within the state of California. </p><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><p><strong>Compensation</strong></p> <p>The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
