This key leadership position manages Abiomed's communications in the United States and is responsible for the development and implementation of effective internal and external communication strategy. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and proven strategist who can both lead and "do." The candidate should enjoy going deep in clinical science, building relationships across a global organization, and seeking ways to continuously improve.


External Communication:

  • Develop key messaging, story ideas, press releases and media pitches

  • Manage Abiomed's U.S. public relations firm and pitch members of the media

  • Represent Abiomed with physicians and other external stakeholders at key industry events

  • In partnership with the medical office, develop clinical content for Abiomed's clinician-facing communication channels

Internal Communication:

  • Develop campaigns to effectively communicate internal messaging to a diverse workforce across the United States

  • Analyze the results of internal communications campaigns and proactively seek ways to make internal communications more effective

  • Partner with human resources to increase employee understanding and adoption of Abiomed's four principles and operating procedures

Social Media:

  • Plan and implement social media strategies to effectively amplify Abiomed's key messages across social platforms

  • Actively monitor social media for engagement opportunities and appropriately engage with physicians and other key opinion leaders

Patient Advocacy:

  • Partner with patients to tell stories of heart recovery in short films, in written form, and in internal and external publications

  • Plan internal and external patient events

  • Liaise directly with senior leadership in US, Japan and Germany

  • Be a champion of Abiomed's Patients First! culture

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 8+ years developing and executing communications campaigns

  • Previous experience working with a public company

  • Previous experience in the healthcare industry

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field

  • Must be a strong writer

  • Ability to work proactively and independently, to seek and incorporate constructive feedback, to manage processes, move projects forward, and complete multiple tasks on deadline

  • An unquenchable passion for improving outcomes for heart attack patients and making the world a better place

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working in the cardiology or medical device industries

  • Experience at a multi-national, multi-lingual organization

  • Experience communicating internal messages to diverse, global organizations

  • Experience managing social media channels in the healthcare space

  • Master's degree in business, healthcare or related field
