SALARY RANGE

$20.00 Hourly

BASIC FUNCTION:

Support staff in the development of communication materials and multimedia products. Assist in the timely and accurate dissemination of information to District stakeholders and the community.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

The duties listed below are just the essential duties of this class.   • Support in the development and design of digital, web, and print marketing materials

  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of press releases

  • Provide both technical and editorial website support, updating content, and publishing news stories in social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn

  • Presentation and report development and design, including PowerPoint and Canva;

  • Copywriting and editing, including developing original content under direction and editing from multiple contributors;

  • Event planning and preparation

  • Coordinating special projects and community outreach

  • Create and update media talking points

  • Post updates to the department's Intranet

  • Creating and updating resource material

  • Interacting with other governmental and community-based organizations

  • Utilizing online metrics tools (such as Google Analytics) to report on statistics for websites, social media sites, email campaigns, and online advertising;

  • Assist with general administrative tasks as needed

INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited college/university majoring in Public Relations, Political Science, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related fields.

  • Recent graduates who have completed their degree in one of the above fields are also eligible to apply.

  • DMV - Valid CA Class C Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Knowledge

  • Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

  • Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field

(e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)

  • Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing

  • Must be computer literate (knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

  • Proficient in Canva, Adobe InDesign, Publisher, and Photoshop

  • Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design

  • Developing/sharing videos via social media

  • Basic research and analysis

  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently

  • High level of computer literacy and ability to learn new technology quickly

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Minimum 10 hours per week up to 30 hours per week.

  • Ability to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship to gain a more in-depth experience.
